Horseshoe Crabs mating! I took this picture at Shell Island today. Horseshoe crabs contain a special protein in their blood that is hyper sensitive to bacterial contamination. Their blood is used by the medical industry to test vaccines, intravenous fluids, and medical devices.

Here is a picture of some of this morning's dolphin action. We were found a pod of about 15 dolphins about 5 miles east of the pass and watched them for about an hour without another soul around.

Here are a few pictures of the wildlife we have been seeing that last few days. The Manta rays feeding on the surface of the water have been a special treat! Bald Eagles have migrated into the area, and we have been seeing them a lot. Dolphins are frolicking and are mostly undisturbed, since the summer boat traffic is gone. It has been magical to sit back and watch them play. The water is still quite murkey and will be for a few weeks after Hurricane Helene, this hasn't stopped us from seeing wildlife!

๐Ÿ ๐ŸกShell Island water conditions after hurricane Helene.๐Ÿš๐Ÿฆ€We ran the first snorkeling tour after the storm this morning! It's still really rough in the gulf, but flat calm behind the island. The water is currently Tea colored and probably will be for a while. Maybe 8 foot visibility in the bay. Water Temperature is cooling down to 79 degrees! Air temperatures are still in the 80s.

Yesterday, we started our tour off watching dolphins surf the Bow wake of a huge container ship and then went down to "Lands End," the very end of Shell Island. Here we spotted some American Avocet birds. They are pretty rare to see in the area. American Avocets are mostly found in Central America and all throughout the Western United States and Canada. We only rarely see them while migrating. We were also able to snorkel with some Cow Nosed rays at lands end. Because of the rain we have had recently, the water is a little bit murky in the bay, but otherwise the conditions for the next couple of days look amazing! Storms will likely be coming in Wednesday and will last till Saturday, so you'll want to get your boating in before Wednesday. We have a few openings left Tomorrow and Tuesday!

Tours With A Purpose

Our mission is to work with a purpose: By providing dolphin tours as educational experiences, which allows a greater understanding and appreciation of wildlife. We are an eco-friendly tour and take steps to make sure we do not disturb or harm any wildlife. The dolphins will thank you for choosing an eco tour outfitter who cares, we will too.
