This is an issue affecting us directly, dear friends and guests! We would have to pass the increased costs on to our guests, which would make us less competitive.

In today’s world, healthy trade and regional relationships go both ways: the BVI has been targeting the USVI Yacht Charter Industry unfairly for several years with arbitrary restrictions and high fees that give their charter industry an advantage over foreign-based vessels (like us) and if you read the proposed new BVI legislation, they are now ready raise overnight charter fees by 5,900%, from $400 to $24,000, and day sail fees by 6,150%, from $200 to $12,500—potentially taking effect as soon as June 1. I applaud Governor Bryan Government House - US Virgin Islands for stepping up to signal to the BVI that this is unacceptable and USVI is not going to take it sitting down…that perhaps it is in the BVI interest to reconsider and modify their proposed legislation.

Governor Albert Bryan Jr has called for an emergency meeting with the Virgin Islands Legislature in response to the British Virgin Islands’ (BVI) proposal to drastically increase fees on USVI-based yacht charters operating in BVI waters. The proposed changes would raise overnight charter fees by 5,900%, from $400 to $24,000, and day sail fees by 6,150%, from $200 to $12,500—potentially taking effect as soon as June 1. Industry experts warn these steep hikes could cripple small USVI charter businesses and push customers away. In response, Governor Bryan is urging the Legislature to consider measures that promote economic parity and protect local businesses, including adjustments to import fees on BVI goods and entry and exit fees for non-Virgin Islanders traveling between the territories. “We must protect our local businesses and ensure fair treatment in cross-border commerce,” said Governor Bryan. OPEN SEASON ON LIONFISH - This is a very worthy endeavor! Lionfish are highly invasive, have no predators, and are destroying the ecosystem.
