ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY.......

June 6, 2024. Today marks the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings along the Normandy coast during World War II.

It was the largest invasion ever assembled, before or since. 156,000 Allied troops landed by sea and air on five beachheads in Normandy, France. D-Day was the start of Allied operations which would ultimately liberate Western Europe, defeat N**i Germany and end the Second World War.

Looking for a copy of "The Radium Girls" or "The Society of the Living Dead" books? We have several copies in stock now!

The Radium Girls were factory workers who contracted radiation poisoning from painting watch dials with glow-in-the-dark paint. The women, who had been told the paint was harmless, ingested deadly amounts of radium by licking their paintbrushes to sharpen them. By 1927, more than 50 women had died because of radium paint poisoning. But the Radium Girls' story story saved lives too. Their diseases and suffering made the public aware of the dangers of radium. In 1938, the Food and Drug Administration bans the packaging of products containing radium, and radium paint is discontinued.
