Today's stop on our Christmas Market River Cruise: Wertheim, Germany. Sightseeing, pretzel making, more Gluhwein (gotta collect a cup from every town!) and some German Navy Rum... From the German Navy!

According to the legend, in 1631, during the Thirty Years’ War, the protestant town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber was invaded by an army led by a man named Count Tilly, a Catholic. Count Tilly was going to destroy the town, plunder the citizens, and execute many of the residents. After much negotiating, the Count offered to spare the city IF someone would drink what amounted to a gallon of wine at one sitting. But, he also said he would kill anyone who failed in trying. The Mayor, Bürgermeister Nusch, stepped up and accepted the challenge - and won, sparing the city. The event is referred to as the Master Draught and the town clock reenacts the story every hour on the hour between 10am-10pm.

Today's stop on our AmaWaterways Christmas Market Cruise: the walled Franconian city of Rothenberg, Germany. Yes, it was cold - even a little rainy - but we still had a great time exploring sites that inspired scenes in movies like Pinocchio and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, trying local dishes like the Rothenberg Snowball, and - of course - there was Gluewein to keep us warm.
