Italy travel tips:

🧳 General:
•Bring a carry-on size suitcase (stairs, stairs and cobblestones)
•Carry your passport (or, at least, have a photo) at all times - the Polizia can ask for it at any time
•Dining - you must ask for the check
•Hotels charge a tourist tax and some require it be paid in cash
•Download Whatsapp - most hotels/vacation rentals message this way
•Carry Euros to use bathroom
•Many toilets don't have seats, pack baby wipes
•Shoulders/knees must be covered in churches

🚆 Train Travel:
•Pre-book all train travel between cities on Trenitalia and Italo - mostly applies for longer, high speed trains
•Download train app to access tickets
•Platform listed 20 min before arrival
•Look for train number NOT destination
•Have luggage and stand at door when you arrive at destination - you have minutes to get off of the train
• If you buy tickets at a kiosk, you MUST validate before boarding to avoid huge fines - this includes Metro, bus and vaparetto tickets in Venice

🛑 Safety:
• Women: always carry your purse in front of you / Men: carry your wallet in your front pocket
• When dining out: do not put your phone on the table, don't hang purse on your chair or put it on the floor
