Back in May Scandia visited the Linnansaari National Park in Eastern Finland to try and spot the endangered Saimaa Ringed Seal. Only about 430 seals remain in Lake Saimaa and they are one of the rarest seals in the world.
The best time to spot them is in May, when they climb onto the rocks to dry and change their fur for the summer.

The Lake District of Finland is a perfect spring/summer getaway destination for relaxing in the nature, spotting wildlife, or exploring the towns and cities and their summer markets and events. For example, fried vendace at the market in Savonlinna is a summer must, followed by an evening at the Olavinlinna Castle Opera Festival!
