I’m still not taking guests May-July out of respect for the locals until we get through Phase 1, but this article gives some good insight, especially in the comments.

This just in from Air BnB:
As of March 31, 2020, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has ordered vacation rentals to immediately begin to cease operations due to coronavirus (COVID-19) concerns.

The order mandates vacation rental operators refrain from accepting new guests commencing on Tuesday, March 31 through May 4, 2020. Guests with bookings or agreements to occupy lodgings may not exercise those agreements and may not occupy lodgings; and hosts shall not accept bookings unless the lodgings are provided for one of the purposes below.

In addition, guests currently on trips starting before March 31, 2020 may remain, but their stay may not extend their originally scheduled reservation except for one of the purposes below:

• Housing and accommodation for health care workers, first responders, and other workers constituting the COVID-19 Essential Workforce.
• To the extent not already included above, housing and accommodation for out-of-state workers engaged in transportation of materials, logistics, and construction associated with the delivery of health-related services, such as the development of COVID-19 alternative care sites;
• Housing and accommodation for members of vulnerable populations, for instance when serving as emergency shelter for homeless individuals and families;
• Housing and accommodation for Massachusetts residents (i) who are isolating or self-quarantining; and (ii) families or roommates of individuals who are isolating or self-quarantining; but (iii) in each case, for no longer than the period required to complete the necessary period of self-isolation or self-quarantining;
• Housing and accommodation for individuals receiving long-term, specialized medical care from a physician located in the Commonwealth, and for accompanying family Members;
• Housing, accommodation, and shelter when required by extenuating circumstances such as fire or casualty to ensure the care and safety of Massachusetts residents and to accommodate other persons unable to return to their own homes due to flight cancellations, border closures, or other direct and material constraints on travel
You can read the full order here. This order is likely to be extended so make sure to check out the resources and updates directly on Massachusetts’s website.

As of April 3, the hospital has reported 10 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on the island, but zero hospitalizations. Some of these people have been flown to Boston. And Tisbury selectmen have extended the recommended stay-at-home restrictions to residents to May 4th.

The rosa rugosa is a beach rose, and its fragrance greets you as you make your approach to water’s edge. You can see and smell them as you bike along Beach Road from Vineyard Haven to Oak Bluffs, and in places like here in the photo, at Cedar Tree Neck Sanctuary. They also line my favorite MV beach, between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown (also where you can find the “Jaws” bridge). We have some planted along the front of the house at and your host Natalie even has some planted in her garden in Portland, OR to remind her of the Vineyard. https://vineyardgazette.com/news/2014/06/11/everythings-coming-rosa-rugosa

Update from Summer Street: we are starting one by one to cancel reservations for the summer with no penalty to guests, and both VRBO and AirBnB are not charging cancellation fees. We want everyone to STAY HOME and not visit the island. The MV hospital is extremely concerned about their capacity and ability to test. We have to keep in mind that year-round residents are a smaller population compared to summer time. They are vulnerable and simply do not have the resources right now to handle sick patients if people bring the virus to the island. We hope to host you in a brighter future, and encourage you to keep in mind how lovely MV is to visit in the shoulder seasons. In the meantime, and are great places to keep in touch with what’s happening on the island, because we all know how much we love it there! Consider taking some of what you would have given to their local economy this summer and make a donation to one of their small businesses. Take care.

This is what to look forward to this summer on Martha’s Vineyard. The Lake Tashmoo beach is a secret spot that really makes you feel like you are away from it all. Minimal parking spots and a rough dirt road (I prefer to bike in) lead to a slice of heaven, scented with Rosa rugosa.

Many year-round residents of Martha's Vineyard are chefs, artists, and writers, a well-knit community of creatives. One of our favorite private chefs and fisherman, Gavin Smith, has just released a new podcast that highlights the "food ecosystem on Martha's Vineyard." Check out his first episode, and consider bringing Gavin over to cook for you one special night at Summer Street MV during your stay! Food Minded Fellow

The Food Minded Fellow Podcast highlights the food ecosystem on Martha’s Vineyard, told through the stories of the people behind it. Join me, Chef Gavin Smith, as I interview the farmers, fishermen, chefs and producers that contribute to this deliciously compelling Island.

Renovations, renovations... part 1 of many. Everything needed a major refresh and update for our first rental year in 2019. Eric previously operated a sustainable paint biz and knows his way around a house. Step one: clean. Step two: pick your colors. Step three: get to work. Step four: don’t look down!

Lightning bugs, fireflies, whatever you call them, they are such a phenomena and treat to bear witness to. Daytime at Summer Street MV, you may see monarch butterflies and caterpillars in the garden. But summer nights are especially memorable, as the fireflies take flight and light up the sky. Video taken early July at the house.

A vacation home can offer more than a comforting experience inside...Summer Street MV’s outdoors has everything you’ve come to expect from Martha’s Vineyard, and by that I mean the outdoor shower (it’s a “Vineyard thing” that residents can’t live without). Follow that up with frisbee in the yard, barbecue on the private patio, and drinks on the lawn for the ultimate spring, summer, and fall vacation. My niece in the photo knows how to do it right! @ Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts

Summer is on its way, and we are excited to announce some big improvements to the house this year, the biggest one being the addition of mini splits for air conditioning throughout the house. Construction is planned for this spring. Click the website in our bio to check us out.
