The Serendipity Cabin is nestled in the center of the Ocooch Mountain Range which is also known as Driftless Wisconsin. You will hear the ripple of the Bad Axe River as it beckons the many woodland creatures down for a cool drink. Anglers from across the Country have come to Vernon County to test their skills in many of the area’s top producing trout streams. The Bad Axe River runs alongside the c
abin and is accessible at the bottom of the hill. My brother John has graciously offered a tour of the Bad Axe Purdy Goat Farm to any visitor who is interested as well as a lesson in milking. He welcomes you to taste the fresh goat’s milk. You may even opt to take some home to try your hand at making your own goat cheese. Friends have told me that this was the best part of their Wisconsin experience. The goat farm is a hike up the hill just behind the cabin, or you may choose to make the short drive up to Nottingham Ridge. This cabin is ideal for two couples traveling together who like their privacy as it has a bathroom upstairs and downstairs. There is also a small bar area on the lower level which includes a sink, coffee pot, electric tea kettle and a refrigerator. The closest restaurant is the Norwegian Hollow Hideaway Bar and Grill which is a short drive from the cabin. They have a full bar and offer a variety of appetizers which include fried cheese curds (my personal favorite), burgers, pizza on Wednesdays and Friday night fish. Enjoy a cold one on the outside deck while the cows graze below. The Driftless Wisconsin area is just south of Lacrosse and half way between Chicago and Minneapolis. It is only a half day drive from many of the cities in Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota, and Iowa. You will enjoy the breathtaking scenic drives along the Mississippi River, the Wisconsin River, and the Kickapoo River.
