Do you still have your pumpkins out?? I’d love to know!!! While I’m SO excited to put out our Christmas decorations, I just can’t get myself to put my pumpkins away yet! Fall is such a beautiful season, and I just don’t want to rush through it….as I age I find myself more inclined to savor each season. How about you?? Is it Christmas at your house already?

Here we go, about to change the calendar again. Days, weeks, months and years fly by and each of them bring a degree of change. I hope the change of the calendar brings a change in the weather. I look forward to the new month bringing time for my family to be together and gather around the table. I pray the last few months of this year bring peace to our nation and blessings to all.

We love our front porches in Texas, but we love them most when we can share them with the next generation. I remember being a child sitting on the front porch steps of my Gram and Gramps house while they sat together on their bench and sipped their coffee. Hard to believe how beautiful life can repeat itself and give me an image of my sweet grand baby on our very own porch. Blessings on blessings. Have a great Friday!

These pumpkins are my favorite part of my fall decor at the house. Not just because they’re unique and beautiful or because they offer a gorgeous contrast to the contemporary coffee table in the living room. I love them because they remind me of the kindness of one of my dearest friends. The first fall that we owned the Morrow House I knew that I wanted to decorate for the seasons so guests could enjoy the uniqueness of each time of year with me. I think it’s one of the beautiful things about staying in a home rather than a hotel, that you’re invited into a different experience rather than a standard rectangle room with two beds. So my first fall one of my most talented friends came to shop and decorate with me. We had such a blast gathering items from around town, especially at what was my favorite Waco spot where she bought these sweet pumpkins for me. They were her gift to me, celebrating my new venture. She’s what good friends are, there for the good and the bad and encouraging all the while. So yes, bringing these pumpkins out each year brings me joy. Much has changed since then, my friend has since moved to another state and The Findery has since closed and its owners are forging a new trail with their restaurant but it doesn’t change the moment we all shared or the memories that live on in my little pumpkins.

I got to put a sweatshirt on twice this week (obviously just in the morning) but it was enough to leave me feeling inspired to break out the pumpkins. Fall is a divine time of year. The colors, the temperatures and the natural changes that nature brings just bring me joy. Nature reminds me of how small we are, reminds me of the insignificance of much of what we choose to focus on. Fall reminds me of the harvest and hope that it brings. So yes, it was time to bring out the pumpkins to welcome all of our guests this fall, so they too can enjoy the colors of the season while in our cozy little cottage in Waco! 🍁

A bit of rain, and a kiss of warm air, that’s what the morning offered. A sweet guest captured this image. It warms my heart when people come and truly see the beauty in our sweet little cottage in Waco. Many come and go but some come and see the homes unique elements, its imperfections and its history and love it all the same. It really is sweet to see when someone captures it for themselves…and shares with me…makes my day!

“Live in rooms full of light” Cornelius Celsius said this around 50 AD. Not that he cares, but I agree with him wholeheartedly. I’d add to his somewhat simple and profound thought this…live in rooms full of light and people who make you smile….That pretty much sums it up for me. It’s funny, a couple years ago I took a 40 day fast from social media, and it changed the way I used this account. I came back from my fast believing there were too many voices, too many people talking instead of listening. So I sort of lost my enthusiasm for sharing. A few years later I’ve sorted through my own emotions about social media and this is what I’ve come up with. I enjoy beauty and inspiration….laughter and insight…wisdom and history. So I will share a bit of each of those as I am inspired to do so. I won’t chase likes and I won’t make videos…simply joy, beauty, inspiration, wisdom all from the beauty of Central Texas where we call home and where we host hundreds of visitors each year in our cozy little cottage in Waco.

It’s here…it happens each year…and yet somehow it always surprises me. I must admit, the build up to the holidays is often as fun for me as the actual event. I absolutely love having things to look forward to…it gives me tremendous joy day in and day out to anticipate good things to come. It’s sustainable excitement and each year I love it. Over the years it’s changed…when I was a child I looked forward to the huge family gathering at my grandparents house. When we had children of our own I couldn’t wait to share Christmas with them. Now, I look forward to our adult children coming home and being together. Admittedly I am already looking forward to having a grandbaby next Christmas. I found myself wondering why I love the anticipation as much as the event and I think it’s connected to HOPE. Looking to the future with hope for a beautiful experience is a small glimpse at the hope that was born to us all those years ago in the manger, so it’s probably fitting that the Christmas season brings us a taste of how hope can sustain. Merry Christmas to you and may the season of celebration leave you feeling hopeful for good things to come.

On this first day of Hanukkah I can’t help but pay tribute to Jacob and Sarah Levinski, the people who built our cozy cottage over 100 years ago. I often find myself wondering what life was like in Waco, Texas for the young Jewish couple who immigrated from Russia and built our home. They had a business on Austin Avenue in the heart of Waco where they sold watches and jewelry. They built The Morrow House which was the first home in Sanger Heights and it is believed that they used the same architect that built the local Jewish temple in town. They are buried in the cemetery near Baylor University. So today, on this first day of Hanukkah I thank them for their legacy and the beautiful home they built that still blesses others over 100 years later.

We haven’t decorated for Christmas yet! I can hardly believe it. We have guests staying for one month! Yay, SO fun, but don’t want to disrupt their visit by getting in to the basement (yes this old historic home has a basement that used to be used for cold storage) and filling the house with Christmas. So…we wait…and probably won’t do as much decorating as we normally would since we won’t be busting out the Christmas decor until the middle of the month. Until then, I just look at pictures from the past and smile. So if you’re one of our neighbors and wondering why no garland, ribbons or wreaths yet? Don’t give up on us just yet….
