Do you have a book living inside you? Has it just been seeded or is it in the third trimester? Are you frequently at wit's end, trying to multi-task, tending to the book that wants to be born while also tending to your livelihood and your family? This is almost a lifestyle for me. Having written more than a dozen books and handbooks, being in the midst of writing one now, with two more clamoring to make their voices heard, I am finally seeing the correlation and feel entitled to say that I know what it means to "be with book."

Ongoing domestic violence is instruction in how to live without stability, constancy, security or continuity. Chaos, shattering, unpredictable destruction and complete lack of safety in the home is the status quo. In such a developmental ambience, contrary to ACES, one can discover how to discern what is stable and true within. I learned to root, attach and bond with creativity. It was agonizing preparation for the world we now inhabit.

Today is the final day of . It has been a challenge for me to post a poem every day, but I am fueled by a larger purpose. The last poem in my new collection, The Great Physician, is titled "In the Time of Massacres, My Grandmothers Awaken Me."

They awaken me to how I, and you, can be instruments for peace. In the poem, my two , one , the other , reconcile their differences and embrace. They show me how my in what appears to be , is not mine alone, and how I am accompanied by scores of who are my .

I am the latent spirit of my two grandmothers.
I am from a long line of peacemakers,
All women of valor, who step forward now.
The curtain of the hidden world is parted
By my two grandmothers, Sophia and Shoshana.
Their unification unifies everything,
Behind me and before me.
I daven for the massacred children,
The children of Gaza and the children of Israel.
They are all our children,
Each one moving out of horror
To the liberating light of the
Oneness we make possible
By our devoted action in their names.

Ancestors. Many of us feel like outcasts, but none of us are. We are never on the outside. We are always in the center.

Our are more diverse than we assume. Our are everywhere. And when they show up, as I say in one of my poems in The Great Physician:

"The sense of helpless victimization and
Smallness in the face of what appears as
The power of destruction,
Bottoms out,
To a platform from which I spring
Into the heart of compassionate action which
Is my destiny."
