Earlier this month Onward Travel partnered with Chef Kelly Unger of The Rooster & The Carrot Cooking Studio and Mandee Hammerstein, Artist & Founder of ArtNewsNows .com, for a week long tour in Paris and Provence featuring the gourmand life and artistic styles of Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, and many others.

Our Emilia-Romagna journey was a feast for the senses. Along with Chef Jenna Arcidiacono of Amore Trattoria Italiana in Grand Rapids, we tasted legendary foods—Parmigiano, Parma ham, Modena’s balsamic—and connected with local artisans. From Michelin-starred dining at Antica Corte Pallavicina to exploring medieval Parma and sipping Lambrusco, every moment was an homage to the region’s rich culinary and cultural heritage. It was a trip of a lifetime!

We ate and drank our way through the Basque Country! From pintxos featuring fresh anchovies and spider crab to Txakoli wine and hard cider unlike what we get in the U.S., this group of travelers expanded their food and wine horizons and took home a few Basque cooking secrets of their own.

Tuscany in the autumn just might be our happy place, and last week we kicked off our fall season in Italy with a "Ladies Only" getaway there!

Our group of fun and interesting women had a great time together based at a gorgeous stone villa in the heart of Chianti. They cooked up many storms, swam in thermal waters, truffle hunted in the Tuscan forest, wined, dined and just enjoyed each other's company alongside their fabulous Florentine tour director, Barbara.

It's hard to believe our scenic journey The Wild Beauty of Scotland is nearly over. Our group, spanning 39 years in age and coming from six states, has been having a whole lot of fun enjoying this place together and learning about the culture, history, geology, wildlife and of course whisky which all - in addition to the stunning landscapes - make it so very special...

Our tour began in Glasgow, Scotland's largest city, where we focused on the design legacy of the city's brilliant son, Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Then we took a quick flight to the magical island of Islay. Most famous for its peaty whisky, Islay is also an incredible place to see wildlife and birds and just experience a way of life that is long gone in many other places. Among the highlights: we stayed at a charmingly old fashioned hotel, visited legendary distilleries and went on a boat ride where both the wildlife sightings and freshly caught seafood were abundant.

A culinary great has passed ~ Lorenza de’ Medici. Our culinary tour groups in Tuscany always enjoy visiting her school, Badia a Coltibuono in Gaiole in Chianti. Rest in peace, Lorenza. We're so grateful for your influence on Italian cooking and our firsthand experience of it at your beautiful estate.
