The T-6 Texan from Erickson Aircraft: "North American Aviation, builder of the B-25 Mitchell bomber and the P-51 Mustang fighter, was also responsible for the design and production of one of the finest training and light attack aircraft in history. The AT-6 evolved from North American’s line of training aircraft that dated from 1935. This series, the BT-9 through BT-14, along with the BC-1, was redesignated the AT (Advanced Trainer) in 1940. The new plane was rapidly integrated into the Army aviation training program as the AT-6. Cadet pilots advanced to the Texan after mastering flying skills in the Stearman Kaydet PT (Primary Trainer), and the Vultee Valiant BT (Basic Trainer). U.S. Navy student pilots also flew the North American product which carried the Navy’s designation of SNJ. During World War II, the plane was utilized in training and attack roles by several nations, including Great Britain, Canada, Australia and the Soviet Union."

A little about the P-51 Mustang from Erickson Aircraft: "The classic P-51 Mustang is one of the greatest success stories of military aviation. Originally designed for Great Britain, the North American fighter was adopted by the U.S. Army Air Force and upgraded with the powerful, reliable Rolls-Royce Merlin which powered the Supermarine Spitfire. With altitude, range, and performance, the Merlin Mustang became a world be**er. Ironically, the P-51 owed its existence to a Royal Air Force query for North American to build Curtiss P-40s at a time when British forces were being pushed off the European continent in 1940 and badly needed additional armament."

Every 3-years the Walla Walla Regional Airport and our local partners hold a full scale drill to test our emergency response to an aircraft accident. The drill will be held this Thursday at 6 pm.

On Thursday, May 12th at 6:00 PM first responders from multiple agencies and Providence St Mary Medical Center will be participating in a full-scale mass casualty incident (MCI) exercise at the Walla Walla Regional Airport. An MCI is any incident in which emergency medical services resources, such as personnel and equipment, are overwhelmed by the number and severity of casualties. In addition to a fire/medical response, this exercise will also involve local law enforcement agencies.

The exercise will be taking place on the apron at the Walla Walla Regional Airport. The scenario will involve approximately 40 volunteer actors with simulated injuries. The public may observe emergency equipment and vehicles, flashing lights and sirens as part of the exercise.
The exercise will be conducted in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration requirements. The Walla Walla Regional Airport maintains an emergency plan outlining response procedures and agencies that must effectively respond to and manage emergency situations that occur on Airport property. Federal law requires that this plan be tested via a simulated incident every three years.

Observers need to stay away from the MCI exercise scene perimeter and first responder vehicles. Local law enforcement agencies will be participating in the MCI exercise to assist with perimeter security.

The Port of Walla Walla, owner and operator of the Walla Walla Regional Airport, welcomes the Alaska Airlines announcement regarding the aircraft transition from the Bombardier Q-400 to the Embraer E175. The Q-400 turboprop has served our passengers well! The Embraer 175 jet aircraft will continue to serve our passengers even better! The Embraer 175 has the same 76-passenger seat capacity, but with 3 cabins including 12 seats in 1st Class, 12 seats in Premium and 52 in Economy.

The aircraft fleet change to the Embraer 175 had been included in our Airport’s Master Plan, so the infrastructure improvements we have made and will continue to make has been part of the decision-making process. Fun fact: The runway in Walla Walla is 6,526 ft. in length! On an 88 degree in Walla Walla the Q-400 aircraft needs approximately 6,200 ft. of runway for takeoff versus 5,400 ft. of runway for the Embraer 175.

Our outreach with the Alaska Airlines team remains positive and Alaska Air continues to like the Walla Walla market and remains invested. The exact timing of the fleet transition to the Embraer 175 remains TBD, but most likely sometime in 2023.

Alaska Air Group Inc., the parent company of Alaska Airlines Inc. and Horizon Air Industries Inc., today will host its Investor Day at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time. Tune in online at investor.alaskaair.…
