Welcome to Warren, RI.
Warren is always the “next big thing,” a perpetually up-and-coming little town on the Rhode Island shore--the smallest town in the smallest county in the smallest state, in fact. But there’s a lot going on.
Downtown Warren is a haven of history, artists, shops, and restaurants, all easily walkable and accessible by bike, boat, bus, and car. Explore hidden side streets, beautifully preserved architecture, a dynamic working waterfront still home to boat builders and fishermen, and a kind of gritty small-town quaintness (quirkiness?) that you just don’t find nowadays. To say Warren’s growth into a haven for artists, chefs, entrepreneurs, and “wash-ashores” from all over the world is ‘unplanned’ is something of an understatement.
Venture farther from downtown and you’ll find more businesses on Metacom Avenue; further beyond that, honor farm stands selling eggs, jams, and produce along with gorgeous views in the Touissett area along the Kickemuit River.
Recent construction downtown (and the rehabilitation of a beautiful old mill on the water on the North side of Water Street, known as Tourister Mill) resulted in new streetlights, trees, and more accessible sidewalks. The area of Water Street, Main Street, and the side streets (including main arteries like Rt. 103 and Market St that lead to highways and points beyond) are bustling with new businesses of all kind, along with old favorites that have stuck around: artisan food shops and juiceries, bath and beauty, vintage, locally made art and gifts, a real record shop, cafes, artist studios, dive bars, waterfront dining, boutique retail and consignment, and more. There’s a new co-working space on Main Street, an incredible Gothic-inspired library, and just down the street, a kitchen incubator for new food businesses and a farmer’s market. Historic Burr’s Hill Park overlooks the town beach, has a band shell and picnic area, and is home to artifacts rich in Native American and Colonial history. The East Bay Bike Path connects us to the city of Providence and the historic waterfront town of Bristol.
