Booking a cruise at the last minute used to be one of the easiest ways to save money. However, with record-high cruising demand, booking a last-minute sailing might not be the best strategy for everyone. Last-minute cruising refers to bookings made after the final payment deadline has passed. For most Royal Caribbean cruises, final payment date is 90 days before the sailing is scheduled to depart. When you book a cruise within this timeframe, you’ll usually need to pay for your cruise in its entirety at the time of booking.

Is booking a cruise late still a good idea to get a deal? Booking a cruise at the last minute used to be one of the easiest ways to save money. However,...

All suite guests have their own line for check-in at a cruise terminal, but when you book a Star Class room, you get escorted inside. There's a special meet area for Star Class guests, where you drop off your luggage. You don't need to print out the regular luggage tags, because Star Class guests get their own luggage tags added on the spot. In fact, your luggage is taken onboard the ship by a specific porter just for Star Class guests, so that means no waiting around for your bags to arrive. The agent then escorts your group into the cruise terminal and through security and check-in. They find the shortest lines and get you moving as quickly as possible.

For some travelers, there’s no better vacation than a cruise. Be it sailing with Disney’s ever-expanding fleet or one of the world’s other big brands, the all-inclusive nature and exotic ports of call appeal to millions of passengers each year. However, sailings to one of North America’s busiest destinations could get more expensive. As reported by AP News, earlier this month Mexico’s congress approved a measure to impose a $42 immigration fee on “every passenger on a cruise ship that docks in the country.” This means that a family of five for example would have to pay over $200 more for a cruise that visits one of Mexico’s ports if the fees are enacted.

This country is looking to impose new fees on passengers.

Just when you thought you had got to grips with all the latest ships, along comes another year of new launches. Next year, nearly 40 river and ocean ships are due to set sail for the first time, offering thousands more berths and exciting new facilities, activities and restaurants. To the list below, add five as yet unnamed Viking Longships – one of which will operate on the Seine in France, with four sailing on the Rhine, Main and Danube. And Disney Cruise Line’s 6,700-passenger Disney Adventure, which will be spearheading Disney’s first foray into Asia with three and four-night cruises from Singapore, is due to start sailing on December 15.

With a new crop of ships due to launch in 2025, here are the highlights of the year ahead

Americans planning to visit the United Kingdom next year will need to complete an extra step in order to enter the country. Starting Jan. 8, an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) will go into effect for most U.S. citizens traveling to or through the U.K., according to the U.S. State Department. Announced at the beginning of 2023, the system is meant to "deliver a more streamlined, digital immigration system, which will be quicker and more secure for the millions of people who pass through the U.K. border each year," the U.K. government's Home Office website stated. It was supposed to launch at the end of 2023 but was delayed.

Most U.S. citizens traveling to the U.K. next year will need an ETA to enter the country. Here's what to know and how to apply.

A man who died on a cruise after attacking crew members was reportedly threatening to kill those around him, a fellow passenger says. Michael Virgil, 35, died on Dec. 13 aboard the Royal Caribbean ship Navigator of the Seas, on which he was traveling with his fiancé and 7-year-old son, FOX LA reported. About an hour after the cruise set sail from the port of San Pedro, near Los Angeles, Virgil reportedly got off the elevator on the wrong floor and began to act unruly, fellow passenger Christifer Mikhail told FOX LA. It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the attack.

If you're sitting near a jump seat on a plane, whether one in the galley or in the middle of the cabin, you might have noticed the flight attendants assuming a somewhat unusual position during takeoff and landing. Oftentimes, they sit on their hands. "It's a safety position," Hilary Clark, director of in-flight services with private jet company Planet 9, tells Travel + Leisure. "The reason for this safety position is if an emergency were to occur on takeoff or landing, their head, hands, and arms are already in a slight brace position."

A travel expert at private jet company Planet 9 shares the real reason why flight attendants sit on their hands while flying.

Picture this: You’re on a dream cruise, the open sea stretching out beyond the boat endlessly. Suddenly, an announcement echoes all through the cruise ship: a surprise “free ice cream party.” While passengers rush to indulge, seasoned cruise-goers exchange uneasy glances. Why? Because they know this isn’t just about dessert—it’s a silent signal that something much graver has occurred.

As demand for Caribbean cruises continues to rise, Norwegian Cruise Line made a strategic decision to cancel a number of exotic cruises scheduled for late 2025 and early 2026 to make way for more Caribbean itineraries. The cancellations to scheduled winter itineraries in South America, Antarctica, Africa and the Indian Ocean on Norwegian Star and Norwegian Dawn make way for the two ships to sail a range of in-demand Caribbean cruises from a new Florida homeport beginning in late 2025.

After canceling a number of exotic cruise itineraries, Norwegian is sending two ships to sail new Caribbean cruises from a new Florida homeport.
