A Minnesota man is looking at a $47,000 bill for receiving medical attention on a cruise ship for what appears to be the flu. Mike Cameron and his girlfriend took a Norwegian Cruise Line trip in January and are now looking at a mountain of medical expenses. "We were celebrating the fact that she beat lung cancer," Cameron said. But the celebration was short-lived as Mike got the flu on board, requiring three days of medical treatment. "I had a couple IVs in me, and they had placed a catheter in me, which I'm not sure is necessary for the flu, but that's what they did."

Cruisers and many cruise ports have been on high alert since a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck in the western Caribbean on Saturday, Feb. 8. That led to an alert being issued warning of a potential tsunami for the Cayman Islands as Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. That advisory has since been cleared. The earthquake hit just after 6 p.m. about 130 miles south-southwest of George Town, Cayman Islands, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The new terminal is capable of accommodating three ships at once, and will be able to handle 36,000 guests per day. Oceania Cruises is to introduce reimagined menus for The Grand Dining Room onboard its newest ship, Allura, when the ship launches in July 2025. More than 270 new recipes will be introduced across all three meal services at the venue, which appears onboard all eight of the cruise line’s small luxury vessels. New features include a Signature Eggs Benedict section of the breakfast menu and a lunch menu inspired by French bistro dishes. Its dinner menu will highlight reimagined classic dishes, including Beef Wellington served with a Shiraz red wine sauce, sauteed spinach and truffle mashed potatoes, and a chermoula butter-roasted Maine lobster with risotto primavera and bisque jus.

A man named Mario Salcedo who has lived on cruise ships for the past 25 years revealed a bizarre health effect that he’s developed from being at sea for so long. “I’ve lost my land legs. I’m swaying so much I can’t walk in a straight line,” the Cuban-born businessman told Conde Nast Traveler in a recent interview. “I’m so used to being on ships that it feels more comfortable to me than being on land,” he added. Bon voyage and buon appetito! Eataly is setting sail this spring on board MSC Cruises' newest flagship. MSC World America will be home to the only Eataly restaurant at sea. Described as "a celebration of Italian culture and tradition, with a passion that extends beyond the menu," the eatery will offer some of the brand’s beloved dishes, as well as exclusive items that are only available on board the new ship. The plan was for Star of the Seas to debut with a 7-night cruise on August 31, 2025. Guests booked on that sailing received an email to inform them that the new ship will enter service sooner than expected. "We have an updated timeline for the arrival of Star of the Seas at Port Canaveral! Constructing such a large and amazing ship is challenging, and while delivery can sometimes be delayed, there are other times where we get to sail our new ship earlier." Royal Caribbean is adding two shorter sailings before the August 31st sailing, calling them "showcase sailings."
