During World War 2 a popular “meme” developed among American soldiers. Kilroy was painted, scratched, and marked onto walls, trees, and any place American soldiers had been as a friendly reminder to any coming through that they were not alone.
It was so prevalent and beloved by veterans of the war that it was engraved into the WWII memorial here in DC. Try and find it’s hidden spot next time you are in the city!
