People ask us all the time to explain the idea of heli-hiking.

It's different from heli-skiing in that sense, which comes with a certain prestige.

We believe that heli-hiking should come with that same reputation - it is an absolute gamechanger for anybody who loves the outdoors.

It's just that it's still building that reputation, in the same way heli-skiing did in the 70s.

Photos and videos don't really do it justice, honestly. It really is something that has to be enjoyed and experienced firsthand.

You can easily and quickly reach high alpine meadows and towering summits by noon, eat a delicious lunch by a crystal clear lake and then wander around a glacier until the helicopter picks you up.

At that point, you head back to the luxurious lodge where you can grab a beer, a bite to eat, and then relax in the sauna or hottub before supper.

Trust me, it's one of the most relaxing holidays you can ever take that involves doing something.

Have you ever heard how heli-hiking was invented? It's all about inspiration.

The very first trip in history was in 1977, when heli-sport pioneer Hans Gmoser first took guests to the Canadian Rockies in the summer. He had been heli-skiing for a few years and felt that he had enough experience to launch another kind of adventure.

One special guest joining the group was Hans' close friend and mentor, Lizzie Rummel, who was by that point in her 80s.

As the chopper stopped on a glacier, Hans stepped out to take a look around. As he surveyed the vast mountain peaks, he heard a loud clatter on the ice behind him.

Turning around, he saw Lizzie standing on the glacier crying. She was so thankful to be up high in the alpine landscape again that she could do nothing but weep from joy and thank Hans for the idea.

If you've ever felt inspired by a mountain, you'll understand the feeling!

Had a great few days back home in Alberta and BC to attend the 2022 CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures Global Sales Meetings. Here are some of our highlights:

1️⃣: 44 mile bike ride up the Bow River valley from Canmore to Lake Louise - I love my DC biking but there's nothing that compares to the scenery of the Canadian Rockies 🏔️

2️⃣: A day at the Calgary rodeo + chuckwagon races, just like when I used to go as a kid. Didn't splurge on any mini donuts this time though! 🍩

3️⃣: Hanging out at the gorgeous CMH Cariboos lodge and enjoying the remote luxury vibes. I love being deep in the mountain wilderness but I'm NOT sleeping in a tent at this point 🏕️

4️⃣: Getting out to hike around in the alpine paradise that is interior British Columbia. Truly one of my favourite places in the world 🌎

5️⃣: Another trip up the Zillmer Canyon via ferrata! If you haven't heard about this experience please get in touch with me so I can tell you all about it📱

Big thanks to CMH and everyone who came out, I had so much fun catching up with old friends and colleagues. It's been too long!

One of the toughest parts of this whole 2020 situation was not being able to escape the heat and humidity in July and August, but I’m way more optimistic about 2021.

Picture a pristine, wide-open alpine meadow, pure glacial water flowing around you, fresh pine trees spreading their scent across miles and miles of untamed wilderness, then retiring to one of our three five-star remote lodges for a drink, a massage, some time in the hot tub and then a world-class meal served to you and your loved ones to share and enjoy together.

It feels like summer to me, what about you?

Kelly, Geoff and family from Philadelphia took advantage of fresh, clear and cool summer July days in British Columbia and went to the Bugaboos in 2019 for a CMH Summer Adventures trip.
