“People come to Expo Park to go to a stadium or a museum or maybe to go swimming but we also want people to come to Expo Park because it’s a park.”

TG+P's Neal Payton in The Architect's Newspaper - "Putting the Park Back in Expo Park"

In less than four years, Los Angeles’s Exposition Park will become the only site in the world to host events during three different Summer Olympics. A number of projects are on their way to be finished ahead of the 2028 games.

This week the TG+P team at Grimke set off for a walking tour of DC's Southwest Waterfront, led by firm principals Nesli Dogrusoz and Sarah Alexander. They started at TG+P's The Westerly and continued through the neighborhood, learning more about an area of DC which has been transformed twice in the last 50+ years. First with the failed Urban Renewal strategies began in the 1960s and again with recent redevelopments that helped break up those mid-century mega blocks and restitch this part of the city back into the urban fabric of DC.

TG+P's Emerging Professionals group is once again participating in CANstruction, a nationwide program that aims to raise awareness about hunger and we need your help to support the Capital Area Food Bank!

In DC, Canstruction is organized by the Washington Architectural Foundation as a creative design-build competition that benefits the Capital Area Food Bank. We will build a sculpture out of canned and shelf stable food which is then donated to the CAFB for distribution to those in need.

This year’s theme is “Construction Tools & Equipment”. All the sculptures will be on public display at the National Building Museum from November 27 - December 2.

TG+P in CoStar News - Parking Garage Redevelopment Limits Carbon Emissions

"The Parks at Walter Reed developers decided to convert the existing Army-built garage as a way to limit the project's carbon emissions. One way to limit carbon is to renovate existing structures rather than build new, a process that often requires pouring thousands of cubic yards of new concrete.

The original garage wasn’t easy to manipulate, however, because the Army used industrial-strength building materials during construction in the 1960s, said Scott Welch, an architect at Torti Gallas.

'The bones of this parking garage were built to probably withstand some sort of attack,' Welch said."
