Mary Liz Stein’s journey spans over 40 years in the transportation industry, beginning as a school bus driver for 31 years before transitioning to motorcoach driving at Hotard Coaches. At 73 years old, she continues to embody the spirit of service and hospitality, thriving in a role she loves. While her work is fulfilling, it hasn’t come without challenges. Transitioning from school transportation to motorcoaches presented a learning curve, as she had to adapt to a new style of driving and engaging with passengers on extended trips.

Mary Liz overcame these challenges with determination, leaning into her love for people and her ability to connect with them. She cultivated lasting relationships with her passengers, who often view her as family. Her safety score of 95 reflects her dedication to professionalism and reliability, even as she goes the extra mile to ensure passengers feel cared for, safe, and welcomed. Her genuine passion and commitment have turned every challenge into an opportunity to grow, becoming a beloved figure in the industry.
Mary Liz is inspired by her faith, her passengers, and the sense of purpose she derives from her work. She believes in serving others and creating joy through meaningful connections. Her Catholic faith has instilled in her the importance of kindness, care, and humility— values she brings to every journey she undertakes. Additionally, her passengers inspire her. She genuinely looks forward to reconnecting with her repeat customers, considering them an extended part of her family. The legacy of Hotard Coaches, one of the oldest motorcoach companies in the U.S., also inspires her to uphold high standards and contribute to the company’s mission of excellence. She takes pride in being part of such a historic organization and feels motivated by the camaraderie and support of her team.

Mary Liz’s success as a motorcoach operator has had a profound impact on both her personal life and the Hotard organization. Personally, her work has brought her immense joy and a sense of fulfillment. She loves meeting new people, exploring new places, and making a positive difference in the lives of others. Her passion and dedication have also made her a role model within the company, especially for new drivers who look up to her for guidance and inspiration.

For Hotard Coaches, Mary Liz embodies the company’s commitment to quality service and passenger experience. Her ability to build genuine connections with passengers fosters loyalty and creates lasting memories for those who travel with her. Beyond her professional contributions, her philanthropy—such as collecting and donating travel-sized toiletries to women’s and homeless shelters—reflects her generosity and care for the wider community. Mary Liz’s success is not just her own; it ripples through her passengers, coworkers, and the community she serves, leaving a legacy of kindness, safety, and excellence.

Twenty years ago, I graduated college with a degree in chemistry and sociology. Fresh out of college, I was hired as an office manager to fill a departing role in a seasonal sightseeing business. Three years later, my manager shared that her expectations had been exceeded as they had simply expected me to fill the basic responsibilities of the role and I had gone above and beyond. With a newfound interest in improving business KPIs, I eventually earned my MBA at Vanderbilt, spending my summer as an investment banker. 💡 When "corporate America" didn't work out as expected, I started my own business, finding success in unlikely places. I am proud to say I was able to support myself through the pandemic, while volunteering a significant amount of my time towards the CERTS advocacy. 🌟

When All Aboard America Holdings knocked on my door for a role, I was happy to answer the call and grow further into a role that combines my love of growth, connecting the dots between people and what they need and supporting business leaders to be in Phase 2, we can build out each type.In Phase 2, we can build and be successful. When I was sitting in my office just a short walk from the Space Needle, I never would have imagined that I would be travelling the world to support growth at 6 businesses with over 1500 team members in a publicly traded, global transportation business. 🌎

The Work really inspires me. Seeing the final product make our business run more smoothly or hearing about the new roles we are adding in the business. It makes me proud to see growth in the bottom line.

From Corporate Life to Driving Change, Erin’s journey in this industry is admirable and so inspiring:

At 25, I found myself at a crossroads, ready to leave the corporate world behind in search of something more fulfilling. 🚍 That’s when I joined H&L Bloom and Bloom’s Bus, a school bus and motorcoach company I knew nothing about at the time. Starting as an assistant controller, I embraced every challenge and opportunity over the next 14 years, ultimately earning the role of CFO. Today, I oversee all financial aspects of this remarkable 3rd-generation family-owned company, which employs over 400 dedicated individuals, and collaborate closely with every department to ensure its continued success.

My journey has been far from smooth, filled with obstacles and moments of doubt, but I’ve always believed in my ability to overcome challenges and push myself further. 💪

Through my involvement with Women in Buses and The Driving Force, I’ve stepped outside my comfort zone, gaining both personal and professional growth. 📈 My dedication to the industry even led to a career-defining moment when I was selected as the sole bus industry representative for the FMCSA’s Women of Trucking Advisory—a tremendous honor and a testament to the impact of perseverance and hard work. 🚛

This is the story of how embracing change, challenging limits, and staying true to my passion have allowed me to drive success—both for myself and for the industry I’m proud to serve. 🚀

This Journey is a true demonstration of the ultimate form of growth and resilience! Thank you for sharing your amazing story with us Somer McMillan, your self-dedication and motivation clearly propelled you along your career and it’s admirable!

At 23, I started my career at a local bus company, coming into a sales quoting position with no experience in the bus industry. I was the youngest and one of only three women at that company. 🚍✨ Over the years, I worked my way up from quoting buses to customer service, collections, account receivable, Account Management, assistant branch manager and ultimately promoted to Branch Manager in Memphis. Faced with a struggling location, I learned every aspect of operations, gained the trust of my team, and turned the branch around, doubling revenue and expanding the fleet, including starting an entirely new school bus operation to service the area. 📈 It was challenging being a young and a female in a predominately male field with the biggest obstacle being gaining the trust of the drivers. I took it upon myself to learn every aspect of each role (dispatch, driver logs, maintenance, DOT inspections, drug testing, driver training, literally everything). Those challenging years shaped me as a leader and proved that failure wasn’t an option. 💪 Today, I’m proud of the journey and relationships that brought me to my current role with STM Driven. 🌟

Inspired by my mother, she is the greatest women I know. I’ve always admired her ambition and work ethic. She’s always drilled into me that I could do anything I wanted in life as long as I was willing to work hard for it, and she never doubted me, but encouraged me every step of the way. These experiences taught me a lot about myself and who I am as a person, and my strengths and weaknesses. I learned a lot about communication and conflict resolution which has helped me in many aspects of my life. ❤️🙌

🎉 From a college student with a passion for linguistics to a seasoned professional with nearly 40 years in the transportation industry, Leslie’s story is one of resilience, growth, and unwavering love for working with children. Starting as a school bus driver and rising to launch her own company, her journey is truly amazing. Thank you for sharing your inspiring story with us, Leslie! 🙌

I am the CEO/Owner of Starks Enterprises Transportation Services Inc., located in Fontana, CA. My journey began as a school bus driver, and over my 39-year career, I’ve expanded into running a company that includes motor coaches and school buses.

While pursuing my degree in English with an emphasis in linguistics—driven by my love for language—I developed a special passion for children, which has fueled my career for almost 40 years!

In 2006, I branched out as co-owner of Empire Transportation. Although the pandemic forced its closure in 2020, my determination led me to launch Starks Enterprises Transportation Services in September of that same year. The journey hasn’t been without challenges, but I believed I could do it—and I did! 💼✨
