A retrospect on the year is something we all do and this pass year more dogs left us than typical. On the positive side, three of them were puppies that are in great working homes, but we also had three passing.
Lanios "Lenny" passing is one of the hardest, because he was so young, 4, and we had so much more to give each other. He was the first of three dogs we got from a kennel in Quebec with the same foundation as our kennel. He was named after my favorite musician Daniel Lanios https://daniellanois.com. We wish they could tell us when they do not feel right, so we could have figured out what was ailing him.
Sonny passing at age 14.5 we knew was coming, and he still leaves a big void. He was named for the slide guitar player Sonny Landreth https://www.sonnylandreth.com, a friend of ours and one of Sage's favorite, both person and dog. Sonny left us with 10 of his children and four grand children, so his legacy will be felt for the rest of our time with sled dogs.
JJ began the countdown this month and unfortunately passed just prior to Christmas. He spent the longest time with us - 15.5 years and the last direct tie to our original dogs. Named for the singer/ song writer JJ Cale, https://www.jjcale.com, he had that husky voice for attention. JJ had enough personality for the entire kennel.
We miss all our dear friend, but yet we have constant reminder of these past dogs, from who is with us currently. We believe their spirits will find their way back to us, or meet us on the other side. Tomorrow will be the optimism of a new year.
