Travel Weekly is excited to announce that professional travel advisor, Sheila Becking from True Travel Unlimited, has been chosen to participate in the Select Travel Advisor Recognition (STAR) Program during its annual CruiseWorld event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida from October 31st to November 5th, 2023. STAR participants must meet strict qualifying criteria and demonstrate what it means to be a qualified professional in the travel industry.
CruiseWorld is a premier event that brings together approximately 800 travel industry professionals to participate in certification programs, attend keynote speeches by c-level industry executives, and take part in immersive educational and networking experiences.
The STAR Program works to curate a group of the most dedicated and professional travel advisors in the industry through an application and review process that involves reference checks and an evaluation of current business practices.
While attending CruiseWorld, Sheila will have the opportunity to attend keynote speeches on the state of the industry by top cruise line executives. STAR participants will also be able to explore cutting-edge destinations and products, tour some of the best ships on the water, engage in one-on-one appointments with supplier partners, and form connections with high-level personnel from different companies.
All of these experiences will enable STAR advisors to stay up to date on the latest industry trends and best practices, allowing them to continue providing unique itineraries to their clients and exceeding client travel expectations.

Some great advice we received from our EDGE conference in Denver last week and what the traveling public can expect this summer in the air:

Air travel is always complex, but this summer we’re getting hit from all sides: pilot and air and ground crew shortages, crowded airports, weather events that set off chain reactions, and reduced flights.
The best thing we can do for our clients is to be clear with them and educate them on why things are different: we will try to book them to fly in early, avoid tight connections, try not to book the final flight of the day (it is easier to re-book an early flight that gets canceled than the red eye), and keep an eye on plane size to avoid small aircraft.
Clients need to start using their airlines’ apps. This is the best way for them to see what is happening with their flight.
Carry on wisely: Don’t just take your purse onboard. Pack a little extra in your carryon. While you should always pack medications in your carryon, travelers should throw a few days’ worth of clothing in there. Better safe than sorry.
Encourage clients to get to the airport early. Now is not the time to make a run for a flight before the boarding doors close. If travelers don’t have PreCheck, Global Entry or CLEAR, this summer is a great time for them to sign up for those programs and save some time at security.

Never fear, the plane is landing safely! But we should all expect turbulence this summer. Buckle up.

The Biden administration announced today that the United States will no longer require a pre-departure COVID-19 test to enter the country starting Sunday.

The CDC will not require pre-departure COVID testing for U.S.-bound air travelers, starting June 12, according to a senior administration official.

Why does my new passport look different? The has been modernized to be Smarter, Safer, Better. Differences include a polycarbonate data page (like a credit card), passport numbers that start with a letter, & microtext security features. travel.state.gov/ngp

Biden Administration reveals new travel rules - Effective Monday
In response to the omicron COVID variant, the Biden Administration today released new guidelines for inbound travelers to the U.S., including U.S. citizens. Effective Monday, December 6, all U.S. citizens, regardless of vaccination status, will need to show proof of a negative COVID test taken within 1 day of travel, or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 in the past 90 days, before they board their flight to the U.S. The “mask mandate” for interstate transportation and international travel was also extended through March 2022.

U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that passengers flying to the U.S. will need to show a negative Covid-19 test performed within one day of departure as the spread of the Omicron variant continues to raise concerns.

The new rule goes into effect during the week of December 6.
