Attaching the teapot components and diving into proper spout alignment. Cleaning up the teapots.

Meet the artist:
Kathy Kerner | Woodlawn Pottery

Kathy’s alternative fired, non-functional work is what she has focused on for the past 20 years. Her early beginning came from living in the southwest and walking the beautiful, textured desert. The challenge and difficulty of the process keeps her engaged. Her horse hair, sagger fired, and raku work is fired at low temperatures, meant for conversational pieces.

Meet the artist:
Lou Pierozzi | Lou Pierozzi Pottery

Lou makes all his artwork on the potter’s wheel. In his ‘Aqua Series’, the artwork is inspired by the colors of water such as the turquoise of the Caribbean Sea, the seasons of summer and spring, and the beautiful colors of fruits like lemon and lime. His work reflects this and inspires organic patterns, fluid textures, and bright colors. He strives to strike a balance between form and function. The textured surface on his porcelain pieces are made using porcelain slip. Lou formulates all his glazes and clay bodies to achieve the perfect colors.

07/12/2024

what is Magic Water?? Laguna Magic Water is a liquid used in pottery to strengthen the bond between two pieces of clay. It can be used to join handles, spouts, slabs, or other attachments, and is especially useful when the pieces are of different masses or stages of dryness, or when conditions are likely to cause cracking during drying or firing. Magic Water can also be used instead of slip when scoring and slipping, or by itself to help two soft pieces of clay stick together. It requires less cleanup than slip and can help prevent cracks from forming along the joints. Get it online today at pottersshop.com or visit us at The Potter's Shop Mon-Fri 10-5 and Sat 10-2!

Meet the artist:
Alexandria Mente | Alexandria Pottery Co.

Alexandria creates because it’s what feels natural to her. She has always been creative, trying many different art mediums. She enjoys every part of the ceramic process and finds it to be the most fascinating mode of art because it shows up everywhere from functional mugs to giant sculptures. Inspired by the world around her, she often uses natural materials for texture and pattern inspiration. Mountains and greenery show up in her work, alongside movement represented by glazes. She includes a mixture of non-ceramic textures, from hand-turned wood to linen rope.

Face vessels or Ugly Jugs have a lot of history throughout the pottery world. Originally a vessel of spirituality and eventually used simply to scare children away from alcohol, face forms are very expressive and multi-purposed.
