The Badlands: a national park with a name so intriguing, you can’t help but love it a little extra when you visit on your Rein Teen Tour.

☀️On Rein Teen Tours, our Western Adventure, Crossroads and Grand Adventure tours experience the ever bizarre but beautiful terrain of the Badlands on the Notch Trail. This short, but exciting 1.3 mile hike travels into a canyon, up a 50 rung wooden ladder built into the face of a canyon wall, and finishes with a breathtaking view over the Great Plains.

☀️Located in southwestern South Dakota, the Badlands stretches over 244,000 acres of strange, sharp eroded buttes, spires and deep gorges.

☀️The Badlands contains one of the world’s best preserved fossil beds from the Oligocene Epoch of the Age of Mammals. Today, prehistoric bones of animals are still being discovered and studied here.

☀️Why the name BADlands? Long before the Badlands became a national park, the Lakota people named the land “mako sica”, meaning “land bad.” A well earned name, the Badlands’ landscape was extremely challenging and unsuitable for permanent living. Jagged buttes and canyons, cold & windy winters, hot and dry summers, and true desolation across its Great Plains made this a challenging land for the Lakota.
