I hope everyone had a happy and safe Independency Day. I know we did. Trip 1 of 2 Mark and his family stayed with us at the lodge for the 4th of July. Thankfully the rain stayed at bay so we could scoop up all the crab we could find. Nice hual guys! I know who's gonna be eating good tomorrow.

Keep Nesting Turtles Safe

Sea turtle nesting season is officially in full swing! Headed to the beach this summer? Here’s how you can do your part to help keep them safe:

- Keep Beaches Dark: Turn off lights not necessary for human safety after sunset and remember to cover beach-facing windows that may confuse nesting turtles and hatchlings.

- No Flash: Avoid using flashlights, bright cellphones, and taking flash photos on the beach at night. These lights can disorient turtles and potentially cause them to crawl away from the ocean and put themselves at risk.

- Clear The Way: Before leaving the beach, clear away furniture, boats, toys, and any trash left behind on the sand that can potentially become obstacles for crawling turtles. Make sure knock down sandcastles and fill in holes – turtles can potentially get trapped.

- Stash the Trash: Prevent entanglements and keep our state beautiful by cleaning up after yourself and others when available.

Most importantly, keep your distance and report any sick, injured, entangled, or deceased sea turtles to FWC’s Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922. Follow FWC Fish and Wildlife Research Institute for sea turtle nesting updates throughout the season. The next nesting count update is coming soon! Boat Sober

FWC officers will be laser-focused on boating safety enforcement over the busy Memorial Day holiday weekend. Last year, officers across the state issued more than 4,000 warnings and nearly 900 citations for boating violations.

Just this week, an impaired operator arrested last Memorial Day weekend, pled guilty to Boating Under the Influence (BUI) and was sentenced to four months of jail time and two years of probation. He will also be responsible for paying more than $2,000 in fines, serving 50 hours of community service and will have to take a mandatory boater safety course. Don’t let this be you!

The FWC reminds all boaters to enjoy time with friends and family but do so safely and don’t forget to designate a sober operator before departing from the dock. Operating a vessel while under the influence of alcohol or drugs is illegal on all bodies of water and can lead to series injuries and consequences. In Florida, it is illegal to operate a vessel with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher, the same as in a vehicle.

Had the honor of taking these outstanding soldiers out bowfishing, 2 first timers and 2 experienced bowfishers. Steve gave me a call and said they wanted to bowfish some rays, so that's what they did. We had some really great weather and a awesome crew to be out with.
Thank for your service and the love you have for our country!
