Just so beautiful! ♥️
Timberline Lodge Milky Way
Mount Hood Oregon 6-13-23
There's a certain allure to the night, a siren's call that tugs at the heart of every wanderer. Last night, that call was too potent to resist. It had been too long since my last night adventure to Pine Mountain, and the road was beckoning.
I packed up, not forgetting the warmer clothes this time, and hopped into my trusty steed, Jetson. The journey was a dance, a ballet of vehicles on the asphalt stage. The city of Portland, once familiar, now seemed like a stranger. Change, it seems, is the only constant.
But soon, the urban chaos gave way to the serene majesty of Mount Hood. A sight that never fails to inspire me, a beacon that has guided countless explorers. The relatively short drive from home only adds to its charm.
The evening was spent scouting trails, with the iconic Timberline Lodge as my muse. Constructed between 1936 and 1938 by the Works Progress Administration during the Great Depression, the lodge stands as a testament to human resilience and craftsmanship. It's been a backdrop for movies like The Shining, Twilight, and The Crazies circa 1973. It's more than just a building, it's a symbol, an Oregonian gem.
As the night fell, I found a secluded spot and set up my star tracker. The Milky Way began its nightly parade across the sky, the lodge standing stoically under the celestial spectacle. This shot, taken from behind the lodge looking south, was a bit of a challenge due to the low hanging moisture. But the stars were kind, the moisture stayed low, and the Milky Way remained in full view. The green airglow added an ethereal touch to the scene.
So here it is a snapshot of a night under the stars, at the foot of Mount Hood, in the shadow of the iconic Timberline Lodge. A testament to the beauty of Oregon, the allure of the night sky, and the joy of exploration. I’m pretty sure I saw Jack Nicholson in one of the windows though 🪓😬😳
