Masks were widely used to conceal the wearer's identity and social status. Today ornate masks are worn mostly during Carnival celebrations, and you'll even see people dressed in traditional Venetian costumes.

Happy World Heart Day! Here at Joshua Tree, we like to think our heart is pretty rock solid. But how did Heart Rock get it’s unique shape? Well, the science behind it is quite lovely. 💗

Over 100 million years ago, our continent’s plate collided with a nearby sea floor plate, forcing the heavier oceanic plate underneath the earth to melt and turn into magma. Over time, the magma was pushed up deep into the ground and cooled into a stone called monzogranite. Being that deep underground meant a lot of weight, so the stone began to crack from the pressure and break apart. As more and more of the crust of the earth was eroded away by wind and rain, the rock continued to break down and became exposed as the softer soil was washed away. Today, the broken bits and pieces of monzogranite remain for us to see in all their exposed beauty.

And so, the heart of Joshua Tree National Park was formed, waiting patiently for us to see. Talk about wearing our heart on our sleeve! 💝

The Trevi Fountain is one of the top attractions in Rome and one of the most famous fountains in the world. Trevi fountain, like all great pieces of art, tells a story. In the centre of the fountain is a statue of Oceanus, standing under a triumphal arch. His chariot is being pulled by two sea horses, one wild and one docile, representing the opposing moods of the sea. Left of the arch is the statue of Abundance. The statue of Health stands right of the arch. The four statues at the top symbolize: Abundance of Fruits- holding a horn of plenty, Fertility of Crops- holding ears of wheat, Products of Autumn- holding a cup and bunches of grapes, Joy of Prairie and Gardens- adorned with flowers. Daily thousands of visitors make their way to the Fontana di Trevi.

Michelangelo's statue of David is one of the most famous sculptures in the world and is kept on display in Florence. Sculpted in the early 16th century, the Statue of David stands at a towering 17ft tall and is currently housed in the Galleria dell'Accademia. However, that's not the only place in Florence where you can see the statue! There are two other identical statues on display in the city—one in Piazza della Signoria and one atop Piazzale Michelangelo.

Like many others, Alaska was on my bucket list. I got to live out my dream at the beginning of this month, starting with a 7 day princess cruise and followed up by a 5 day cruise tour. We spent two extra nights in Fairbanks at the end. I highly encourage anyone who has dreamed of going to Alaska to do it. It is incredible and exceeds every expectation.

Just a short hour and 15minute train ride from Florence is the charming Italian town of Siena. This medieval town features 17 different districts that all compete in a historical horse race known as the Palio di Siena. The riders race around the outside of the city's famous Piazza Del Campo to bring honor, pride, and notoriety to their respective ward.

Siena is a fun and easy day trip from Florence and perfect for anyone who wants to see more of the Tuscan countryside.
