It was a nice day on the water. By midday the water was 68 and the air temp reached 80. Light winds prevailed and the tide was rising. I caught several speckled trout and ladyfish while fishing the grass flats in Terra Ceia Bay and a cow nose ray ate a live shrimp fished on the bottom int Tampa Bay.

Just as it is in football, fishing is a game of inches. Yesterday I caught several sheepshead, a speckled trout and a flounder but all were an inch or two short. That’s how it goes sometimes. I look forward to the next day on the water.

Fishing is a little slow this morning. I’m finding sheepshead around docks on the river. While searching for a bite I found a large piece of styrofoam and a hunk of wood that was waiting to take out a lower unit. It was a little foggy on the river this morning. The trout were biting well on the grass flats in Terra Ceia bay. I was throwing a DOA Cal shad on a red 1/8oz Mission Fishin jig. I’d let it fall to the bottom and hop it back. Even if you don’t feel a strike if anything feels different, set the hook. The water was 66-67 in the bay but I did find 71 degree water in Champlain Bayou. Costa Sunglasses

I volunteered to help clean up hurricane debris this morning near Robinson’s Preserve and the DeSoto Memorial. This was an empty dumpster this morning but not any more. There is so much debris in the mangroves but we made a big difference in this area. This effort will be ongoing for at least a year. So far I’ve removed 33 buckets of storm debris from the shoreline along Ware’s Creek and the Manatee River. I will see how many I can add to that today. Coastal Conservation Association Florida

I usually launch at Warner’s Bayou boat ramp on the Manatee River. I went there today to pickup trash along the shore. Many of the Australian Pines at the ramp are now gone. These non-native trees couldn’t take 120mph winds. The mangroves (native species) are already sprouting new leaves and the sea grape trees (another native species) looked unchanged. There is a lot of trash that was left in the mangroves by the wind and high tides of recent storms. Plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and styrofoam items of all sizes and shapes make up the bulk of what I remove. Coastal Conservation Association Florida Costa Sunglasses

Attention Rotarians!

We know the world has tipped upside down this week and so many club members, snowtarians and friends are reeling from the damage to Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key and Cortez.

If you are out of the danger areas and can spare some time to help we are trying to do a little thing for the Village of Cortez. Slicker's Eatery has been totally gutted but the walk in cooler is working. There will be a tent out in the front parking area of Slickers and we will be cooking hot dogs and providing the dogs, cold water and chips to the Cortez neighbors and responders from 11 AM - 4 PM this week, Monday (today) thru Friday. If you have an hour or two to help out please let Judy know.

Also, if anyone needs help with cleanup please reach out we will try to help as much as possible, we are in this together.

I was able to help Bob with fundraising yesterday. There are a lot of people in the service industry that were counting on the tourist season to be starting now. I look forward to helping my friends get through this and come out better.

This is a 42” musky striking a Musky Whacker Pomme Glider near Stillwater Resort at Lake Pomme de Terre - Wheatland, MO Pomme de Terre Lake.

A 42" musky slips out from between the dock floatation and hits a 8" Musky Whacker Pomme Glider as the first turn of the figure 8.

It is a beautiful Ozark lake. Stillwater Resort has many rooms and a dock with a boat ramp nearby and you don’t have to go far to find quality fishing.
