Calling all fans of the works of Dr. Brene' Brown. I am so excited to be offering 2 groups this summer based on the the exciting research of Dr. Brene' Brown. If you aren't familiar with her work I encourage you to check out one of her brilliant TED talks that introduce what she uncovered as she researched hard topics such as shame and guilt. She uncovered what is needed to step into and live what she calls a wholehearted life." As a certified Daring Way(T) Facilitator, I am privileged to be able to share her work with you. The morning group will meet on Wednesdays from 10-12, and will be based on her book "The Gifts of Imperfection", and the evening group, based on "Daring Greatly", will meet on Thursdays from 5:30-7:30. Both groups will meet at my new West Jefferson office. For more information message me or call 336-902-3888. I hope you'll join us...you are worthy of a whole hearted life!

Hello all. I have been way too quiet on this page, but there have been many exciting things happening here since I moved to Ashe County! I am now in another new office in West Jefferson and loving my new work home. I continue to travel to Tennessee monthly to facilitate healing work that I love at Onsite Workshops. And I am excited to announce a few new workshops that I will be offering over the spring and summer. In April I will be holding a 4 hour workshop titled "Calming the Inner Critic". This workshop is focused on identifying those faulty, flawed messages that get in the way of reaching desired goals, and then changing them! It will be held April 13 from 1-4pm.
And then, beginning in May, I will be offering 2 groups based on the amazing research of Brene' Brown. Her work has changed so much for me personally in the way that I show up in my life, which is what led me to becoming a Certified Daring Way Facilitator Clinician. I am so excited to share what has helped me grow to others.

For more information on the workshop, or the upcoming groups please call me at 336-902-3888, or send me an email at www.factorcounselingservices.com.

May is a big birthday month for my family. I entered a new decade this month and have been reflecting on what I want to experience over the next year. I am also very aware of how time can pass so quickly without my taking notice of how I am spending it. Today is my daughter, and my grandson's birthday, and the time since they were babies seems to have moved at faster than possible speeds. I am working on slowing down, and noticing what happens in the time that I have been given. I recognize that time is my only non-renewable resource, and that like everyone, I have only a certain amount to use. I am trying to be more intentional in my scheduling, making sure that there are activities in my schedule that promote my personal growth. If you are interested in becoming more intentional about how you show up in your world, I want to share an opportunity with you. I will be offering a 3 day workshop, August 3-5, in my beautiful West Jefferson,NC office, based on the work of Brene' Brown. I have recently become a Certified Daring Way Facilitator Candidate and am so excited to share what I have been able to discover since attending a Daring Way Workshop as a client several years ago. How to "show up, be seen and live brave", in any are of your life that you want to enrich. So if you, too, are looking for more intentional growth in your life, message me, or call me (336-902-3888) for more information.

Hello and happy spring. I have been away from this page for a bit but I have not been idle. Spring is such a lovely time in the mountains of North Carolina and I have been planning many exciting opportunities that I hope will be interesting for all. I am excited to announce that I am now a Certified Brene' Brown Daring Way Candidate and will be offering at least two opportunities this summer and fall for those of you that love her work as I do. I am currently taking registration for an 8 week Daring Way group that will begin in late July. Exact days and times will be decided by interested group members as I have some flexibility and I know that summer can create some crazy schedules with vacations and children out of school. So if you have a desire to understand more about living a Wholehearted life email me at [email protected]. The group size is limited so don't wait.
I am also offering a Daring Way weekend in August. The dates are August 3-5. It will be a wonderful weekend of connection and personal growth. The cost is $450 ($400 if paid in full by July 15) which includes a copy of Daring Greatly, all program materials and lunch on Saturday. For more information, or to register email me at [email protected] or call my office at 336-902-3888

I am afraid that I have been MIA for a little while but am excited to share the many exciting things (and one not so exciting thing) that has been keeping me busy this new year. After a wonderful holiday visit with some of my children I am afraid that I came home with the flu. That put me about 2 weeks behind in my life (wash your hands folks!) but I am recovered and moving ahead. My women's group, Women Supporting Women is planned, and registration is going on now. I am offering both a daytime and evening group so please call if you are interested to get all the details. It is a fabulous way to connect, heal, and learn new tools for personal growth. 336-902-3888. Also, my website is now live!!! Please check it out and send my your feedback. www.factorcounselingservices.com. And soon, very soon, there will be an exciting announcement about a women's retreat I will be offering in April. So stay tuned...there are great things happening here.

Busy, busy, busy... That is the common response this time of year when you ask how someone is doing. It has been a busy time of year here, too, and I am so excited to share the new plans for 2018 that have been keeping me busy! Starting in January we'll be offering two popular groups that focus on building healthier relationships. A Tuesday morning group for women only will meet from 10:00-11:30. A mixed gender group will be offered on Thursday evenings from 6:00-7:30. These are experiential counseling groups and we begin by looking at our relationship with self. If building closer relationships with those you love is one of our goals for the new year please call 336-902-3888 for more information.

Happy December everyone! After working for a week in Tennessee (which was amazing) I came home yesterday to mountains of snow. Ok... inches, but if you know me at all, you know that I am not a fan. Usually I am trying to get out in it, worrying about sliding, or getting stuck as I go about my normal, hurried pace. But this morning, as I sip my coffee, in an unhurried state, I am aware of the peaceful beauty in the snowfall. I see roofs covered in white, and untouched fields blanketed in beauty. I can feel the calm as I think about how amazing nature is, giving us everything we need. What beauty can you find today if you slow down? Please share.

Today is Giving Tuesday and I hope that everyone reading this finds a way to give this holiday season. Give of your time, your talents or your treasures, and the benefits for you will be greater than can be imagined. Today I am donating coats to help keep children warm this winter. I am also donating to an organization near and dear to my heart...The Onsite Foundation. What will you give? Please share so we all can be inspired

Hello friends. As this holiday season gets underway I have been reflecting on all that I am grateful for, and the many blessings that I have been given. I remember a conversation that I had with my youngest daughter many years ago when she asked "Do we know anyone that is rich?" She was quite surprised when I told her that most everyone we knew was rich, including us. As she began to dispute this truth I asked her if she had enough to eat, water to drink, a warm bed at night, and friends to ask for help if she needed. I explained how this made us rich and how many in this world did not have these basic needs met.
Today I am happy to share that she understands this and works to give back. Giving is not something that only benefits the recipient...there are many science supported benefits to the giver as well. Giving has been shown to lower blood pressure, improve relationships, decrease depression, and lead to a longer life span. Giving of wealth, whether it is time, money or energy, is a double win. So how will you share what you've been given this year? Inspire me, and perhaps others. I'll start...today I am giving to Shatterproof, an organization that works to fight addiction, in honor of my friends instead of buying them a gift they don't need. I'll post more giving this week, and perhaps will copy some of yours. So post!!!

I have just returned home after a week of work and training at a place that I love. I was reminded there of something that I believe is very important. As people, we are more alike than different. And as we connect through our similarities, and respect and become informed about our differences, amazing things happen. Happy Thanksgiving.

11/16/2017

One week until my most favorite holiday. Thanksgiving has always been special to me. Part of it has been about the food. Food has always been a source of comfort for me. Cooking it, eating it, sharing it. As I have gotten older it has also been a special time of reflecting. As I start to create my menu and grocery list I also start creating a list of gratitudes, big and small. I keep them in my journal and go back to the list when I am feeling sad, or depleted. I have kept this practice a secret from most but having just completed the first part of the "Daring Way" facilitators training and am feeling the need to share some of the "hidden" parts of me. Brene' Brown's work challenges us to Be Brave, Show Up, and Be Seen. So if you are ready and willing, I encourage you to share a hidden part, or just a simple gratitude. Share it here, or with someone you want to know you in a deeper way. Today, my top gratitude is for the people in my life that have helped me to know that who I am is just enough.

11/13/2017

Ahh, Monday. For many it's the start of the work week. But it can also be the day to start something else...a gratitude list, journaling, or a hobby that you've always wanted to try but keep putting off. So I challenge you to set an intention, stir your energy, and start something other than your work week today! What will it be? I am starting a new book today. Share your "start" if you're willing. It might inspire someone else!

Did you know that healthy social connection is crucial to your health and overall well being? In fact, not having social connections can be as harmful to a person as smoking! So it’s Friday...make plans to connect! And share if you’re willing. I plan to have a special weekend with my husband at one of our favorite places for pampering. What are you planning?

11/08/2017

Happy Wednesday! Growing up we called this "Hump Day" but I have decided to change this to "Happiness Hump Day"! I have a lot of questions and uncertainties at times, but this I know for sure...we could all use more happiness in our lives! No matter how much happiness you have there is always room for more. Did you know that just being mindful of the good things around you can boost your level of happiness? What is happening around you today that makes you smile? Focus on that and see how it can change your outlook. And share if you are willing. I'll go first...my sweet dog Daisy and her persistent antics designed to get my attention makes me smile. Today I will focus on the love she gives me without conditions. Now it's your turn...
