I spent close to three weeks in Brazil this year chasing giant peacock bass on the Jurubaxi. It was probably my most memorable trip yet. So many big fish and the lowest water levels any of us had ever seen. It presented extremely unique situations that I have never seen before.
This fish was in a shallow part of a lagoon in no more than 2 feet of water. There was no deeper water in 200 yards in any direction. She was swimming along with an even bigger fish that was likely very close to 20 pounds.
As I made my cast towards them I realized these fish were guarding fry. The smaller of the two defensively attacked and it was game on. I felt like I was transported back to Florida, watching this large fish push a constant wake along the sandy bottom it was living in.
After releasing her, I watched her return to her partner and the fry. Instead of casting at the other fish, we decided to follow them for over 20 minutes, getting a rare, up-close look at their interaction—something we rarely get to witness.
This is just one of many incredible stories from my Amazon trip this year. If you’re interested in joining me next year or in 2026, I already have every prime week reserved. Please message me if you are interested in the ultimate trip of a lifetime.
