From my dear friends at Delfin Amazon Cruises - Relais & Châteaux. "They just posted this and it touched me so am sharing with you. This is from their post "Incredible day on the Amazon! Our naturalist Adonay spotted a Two-Toed Sloth clinging to a fallen tree with her baby amidst rapid waters. Sloths are great swimmers, but the swift current posed a real danger, especially to the baby. Our team stepped in to save them, ensuring they made it safely back to a tree. A rare and heartwarming encounter!" I actually think these are 3 toed sloths now that I look closely.

So much cuteness and a happy ending. It was their post so I have to post the photo credit.

Off the beaten path, on an andean highway, headed to a picnic lunch far from crowds, we encounter recycle art. Used tires have always been used for shoes but this sure is interesting. Ya gotta love Peru.

If you’ve tried coffee in Peru, then you know how delicious it is. If you haven’t and you can find it in your hometown, please try it. It has a unique flavor. When I am in PERU, I try to bring up enough to last a while, but it never does so I guess it’s time for me to go back.

I stayed here (more than once). So who thinks that when you go to the Amazon, you have to rough it? These photos were taken at the lodges belonging to Rainforest Expeditions with the Tambopata Research Center being the only lodge located inside the uninhabited Tambopata National Reserve. This luxurious eco-lodge is one of the most remote lodges in South America and its pristine location means that it's surrounded by the best wildlife the Peruvian Amazon. Not as unreachable or undoable as you thought?

No matter where you are in Peru, you will find the most amazing assortment of colors in their art and handicrafts. From rustic to fine, from textiles, to ceramics, to painting, and so much more. Here are a few tapestries done with a 3D effect and some of them look like the jump right off the textile. I hope I captured the effect but I took these so they could be better for sure. Anyway, enjoy.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 - 𝗦𝗲ñ𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗹 𝗟𝗼𝘀 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀- 𝗔 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝗰𝗼 𝗜𝗰𝗼𝗻!

I don’t have to tell you that this is Holy Week around the world and here in Peru we call it Semana Santa (Holy Week). The Monday after Palm Sunday is one of the most important days of the year in Cusco when the city pays homage to “El Señor del los Temblores aka Lord of Earthquakes and also the patron saint of Cusco.

The Cathedral of Cusco houses a sacred statue of a crucifixion that is believed to be the Christ that saved the city from being destroyed during a massive earthquake in the year 1650. He is adorned with special red flowers called Red Nucchu, supposed to represent the blood of Christ.

As in most processions of this type, it takes a group of about 30 people who remove the statue from the cathedral and parade him around Cusco beginning at the Plaza de Armas and continuing on a special route around the City Center. Much of the town comes out for this procession and Cusco is packed. It is quite a spectacle if you happen to find yourself in Cusco on Holy Monday. And on any other day, you can visit him in the Cusco cathedral!

Who tasted Chicha in Peru? This is it's more delicious relative originally made from frutilla (small pink Andean strawberries) which are now harder to come by and often replaced by regular strawberries which are found in abundance. It is fermented so don't drink too much and it is known as "frutillada" - fru-tee-yada.

One of the many marvels of visiting the Galapagos Islands is to catch an active volcano erupting. It is an amazing spectacle from afar and Fernandina Island is uninhabited by humans. At present, authorities have not commented on whether the wildlife on the island will be or has been threatened by the eruption. Fernanda, the giant, lone female tortoise lives on the island and it is also home to a number of other species, including iguanas, penguins and flightless cormorants. Lets hope all the critters are safe.

The La Cumbre volcano on Fernandina Island, the third largest in the Galapagos, has begun a new eruption. The Geophysical Institute of Ecuador said a "therma...

Most folks think that to walk on the iconic Inca Trail into Machu Picchu you have to spend a few nights camping. WELL, I am here to tell you that is not true. There is what we call the Inca Trail Express which only requires 4 - 6 hours of walking and seeing gorgeous landscapes and amazing ruins that you could not get to any other way than on that trail and oh....the flora. Orchids abound. You don't have to be an athlete but must be in reasonable shape. Doable even with a metal knee :-). Walking in on this part of the trail is the way you able to capture that famous breathtaking first view. It is also doable for kids of all ages from about 10 - 80+. Just thought I would put hope in some of your hearts. Come to my Peru!

Birds Anyone? Peru on my mind as usual.

The Marvelous Spatuletail is considered by many experts to be the most beautiful bird in the world is only found in Peru! Despite the tiny size of this species (It is a type of Hummingbird!) Its color and bright plumage stand out in nature. And… it is endemic to Peru and can only be seen in the Peruvian Amazon. There are great photos and videos of this cutie on line. Peru is a true paradise for !
Furthermore, Peru has been recognized for its world-leading diversity of bird life, now topping even its neighbors Brazil and Colombia when it comes to the number of bird species that the country is home to. The most recent count showed that Peru is home to 1,879 species of birds – the largest number in the world. In recent years Peru has become an increasingly popular tourism destination for birdwatchers who flock to the country to explore ornithological life in the Amazon, the Andes, and coastal communities.

There were fabulous breakfast buffets at all of the hotels I visited on this trip to Peru and this one in Cusco had the unique (well, unique to me) addition of very fresh honey. Oh, and the hotel was a winner as well. Very comfortable, great location, service, wonderful patios and walkabouts with interesting artwork on the walls. It is also a historic building with Inca walls and spanish colonial fusion.
