The venerable WPBFC continues to cultivate the next generation of knowledgeable and responsible saltwater anglers through a hands-on instructional fishing experience called S.A.L.T.Y. (Saltwater Angling Lessons & Techniques for Youth).

The two-day course consisted of a Friday evening introduction and hands-on rigging session at the historic West Palm Beach Fishing Club, followed the next day with on the water instruction and fishing aboard the Miss Blue Heron drift boat offshore.

The S.A.L.T.Y. program helps strengthen the bonds between parent and child by teaching them valuable skills they can use in the life-long activity of fishing.

The program included personalized instruction, various supplies, t-shirt, meals, snacks, drinks and a new PENN rod and reel for all 20+ kids involved!

A special thanks to our community partners like the  and all the volunteers involved who shared their knowledge and spent time with these youth anglers.

Palm Beach County Sportfishing History: The Mullet Gutters

The WPBFC’s charitable foundation has launched an exciting initiative documenting Palm Beach County’s sportfishing history.

We intend to develop a mobile exhibit that highlights some of the people, places, boats and events that influenced not just sportfishing, but also tourism and the cultural identity of the Palm Beaches. As we curate the exhibit we will share some of the stories and pictures we uncover along the way. We are honored to dedicate this historic preservation project to the late Capt. Jack Morrow.

The WPB Fishing Club has initiated an oyster shell recycling and restoration program in Palm Beach County.  There is a need to enhance oyster habitat in the Lake Worth Lagoon and its adjacent waters.

Recycled oyster shells provide an ideal substrate for the recruitment of new oysters.  Oysters are filter-feeders that help rid estuaries of excess nutrients and fine sediment.  Improving water quality and clarity is our goal.  The Club’s charitable foundation is currently collecting used oyster shells from select local community partners/restaurants, and has already began installing vertical oyster gardens to recruit new oyster growth in our local waters.
