In addition to the logo announcement video we posted last night, we just released a longer and more personal/emotional video that further defines Shendopen, explores why filmmaking is important to its founder, and addresses the past, present, and future of Shendopen.

"What does SHENDOPEN mean?" Well, 20 years after founding Shendopen, I have finally defined the word with a new logo and brand identity.  This rebrand has been long overdue, and I am thrilled to celebrate the 20th anniversary by ushering Shendopen into a new era of storytelling.  Check out the log...

Today, I found out that I received a $4,250 fellowship through the Mississippi Arts Commission to support my efforts in creating new work. I will be using this opportunity to write a new feature script that I’ve been developing since 2018-ish but haven’t had the dedicated time and creative space in my brain to tackle it. But now I will! Additionally, these funds will help me develop other film/writing projects that have been needing attention.

If you aren’t already, please follow and support MAC! Mississippi artists and art organizations are beyond fortunate to have such a supportive and generous organization to uplift and champion Mississippi artists and storytellers. These grants are life changing for artists and help keep arts sustainable within the state.

Thank you Mississsippi Arts Commission and all those who support this organization!

Well, this year is the 20 year anniversary of me creating Shendopen 🥳

I've been intending to rebrand my company for the last 4 years, but the inspiration never found me until now. Thanks to some creative flows during the Spring Equinox, the rebrand has finally begun with a new logo for Shendopen just in time for the 20 year celebrations... coming soon-ish.

Check out this video on Patreon for the logo reveal and the story behind it. Patreon subscribers get the whole story and the logo reveal before everyone else because of their support for my creative journey.

The official logo and branding will not be released until the full rebrand is finished and ready to launch. However, I will post sneak peaks and updates on my Patreon along with all my other life/career/project updates.

Stay tuned or consider joining my Patreon to get the scoop and stay in the loop.

More of our cinematography work premiering soon at The Magnolia Independent Film Festival.

As a cinematographer, Michael adapts his style to serve the story, the director, and the logistics of the set. For this southern gothic tale, the set and tone of the story highly dictated the lighting on this one.

Yessss! Don't Die is an award winner!

The people have spoken. We’re honored to receive the Audience Award for Best Alabama Film at this year’s Sidewalk Film Festival! We had a packed house at one of the festival’s largest venues, and we’re eternally grateful for this seal of approval from such an amazing audience. Thank you for a wonderful weekend, Sidewalk.

Our Story

Shendopen began as an indie filmmaking company in 2004 when creator, Michael Williams, began his career making short films. In 2005, Shendopen began providing video production services to local businesses and individuals. The company soon developed into a full video and photography business that also facilitated indie film production in Mississippi. The first storefront for Shendopen was opened in 2010 in downtown West Point, MS, and moved to a new location on Commerce St. in 2011.

After creating over 20 short films and releasing his debut feature film OzLand in 2015, Williams began to transition Shendopen into a company dedicated to independent film production. In 2016, transitioned from having a physical store front to working remotely on video, documentary, and commercial production while continuing to facilitate film production throughout the state of MS and surrounding regions.

Shendopen released The Atoning in 2017 in the US with international markets releasing the film around the world in 2018 and 2019.

Currently, Shendopen produces commercials and video content for clients and is in early development on a slate of upcoming independent films.
