If you plan to use fireworks this year, please read the laws and do so legally, responsibly and respectfully. If you witness illegal activity, report it to the police.
Firework Safety Announcement from the West Richland Police Department.
As we approach the holiday season, the West Richland Police Department would like to remind all residents and visitors to celebrate safely and responsibly.
FIREWORK SAFETY REMINDERS:
1. Follow the Law: Only use fireworks that are legal in your area. Possession or use of illegal fireworks is prohibited and may result in fines or legal action.
2. Designate a Responsible Adult: Fireworks should only be handled by sober, responsible adults.
3. Keep Water Nearby: Always have a bucket of water or hose ready in case of fire.
4. Use Outdoors Only: Never light fireworks indoors or near dry grass, brush, or buildings.
5. Respect Your Neighbors: Be mindful of noise, pets, veterans, and those sensitive to loud sounds.
6. Dispose Properly: Soak used fireworks in water before throwing them in the trash.
7. Never Relight Duds: If a firework fails to ignite, do not try to relight it. Wait 20 minutes and soak it in water.
DATES AND TIMES ALLOWED:
Fireworks may be sold in the incorporated areas of the city of West Richland during the period commencing at 12:00 noon on the twenty-eighth day of June of each year and ending at 12:00 noon on the sixth day of July of each year.
Fireworks may only be discharged during the following periods:
July 2nd through July 3rd between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 pm.
July 4th between 6:00 p.m. and 12:00 midnight
December 31st between 6:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. January 1st
REMEMBER: Homemade or modified fireworks are extremely dangerous and illegal. Leave the big displays to the professionals.
