Wildfire Defense Race Series - Yellowstone Special dog sleds races are today through Sunday

The 2025 Yellowtone Special Sled Dog Races are coming up this weekend on February 7th & 9th in West Yellowstone, Montana.

Races start at 8am each day on the north end of Dunraven Street with teams leaving the start at two minute intervals until the last team goes out at approximately 8:40 am. Spectators are welcome and admission is free. Come early to feel the excitement build as the teams get ready from 7am to 8am.

Spectators are also welcome along the race trail on the Madison Arm Loop and are encouraged to watch from one of two viewpoints shown on the Spectator Information Sheet in the attached photo.

Spectators are also welcome at the finish line, but access is via over the snow travel only. Snowmobiles, skis and snowshoes are all welcome, but NO Wheeled Vehicles allowed. There is absoluteltly no parking for spectators in any sort of wheeled vehicle at the finish area.Teams will be finishing from approximately 8:50am to 10am.

The Wild West Winter Block Party, a two-day outdoor concert event during our winter season, is organized by Aaron Hecht from Wild West Pizzeria & Saloon, a member of the West Yellowstone community since 1999. Set against the backdrop of West Yellowstone’s snowy landscape, this event will take over Madison Avenue from Boundary to Canyon, transforming nearly a full city block into a vibrant, music-filled weekend.

We imagine a bustling street filled with the sounds of live music echoing through the winter air, as visitors and locals gather to enjoy a weekend of entertainment and adventure. The Wild West Winter Block Party isn’t just another event; it’s a full-blown winter celebration.

This event will be in collaboration with RJK Entertainment, LLC, a concert promoter based in Ketchum, Idaho that produces events throughout the country. They will handle booking top-notch bands that will keep the energy high all weekend long. Attendees can choose to enhance their experience with VIP access, offering premium views and exclusive amenities.

The Wild West Winter Block Party will allow attendees to create activities packages, bundling concert tickets with hotel stays and winter adventures like snow coach or snowmobile tours through Yellowstone National Park, and cross-country skiing expeditions. This is more than just a concert—it’s a winter escape, designed to keep attendees engaged and entertained throughout their stay while showcasing all that West has to offer in the winter.

In partnership with another local favorite, the Buffalo Bar, both establishments will offer their food and a variety of beverages onsite. There will be other food and drink options for the General Admission Ticket holders. The event space will be well-equipped with security, ample trash services, and plenty of porta potties to ensure a comfortable and safe environment for all attendees. There will be re-entry option for attendees, keeping folks onsite during the concerts. Additionally, the concert end times allow for attendees to go to other local bars afterwards, adding more revenue for those restaurants/bars.

We anticipate drawing a crowd of 1,500 to 2,000 concert-goers, all of whom will be encouraged to stay local, dine at our restaurants, book local excursions, and fully immerse themselves in winter in West Yellowstone. The Wild West Winter Block Party isn’t just an event—it’s an experience that will leave a lasting impact on both the community and our visitors, creating memories that will draw people back year after year.

🏨 First off, check into the Kelly Inn. This cozy hotel has spacious rooms, an impressive continental breakfast, free soup, cookies and hot cocoa in the afternoon, and an indoor pool/hot tub that the whole family will love.

🦬 Then, schedule a snowcoach tour into Yellowstone National Park with Yellowstone Vacations. The park is absolutely magical in the winter! We loved viewing the wildlife, the geysers, and Old Faithful with no crowds.

🍻 Catch beers and dinner at Yellowstone Beer Company. The turkey chili and cornbread were delicious and warmed us up after a day outside.

🐻 The next day, head over to the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center. We learned so much about the animals, though Hudson’s favorite was the salamander lol.

🎿 Then we loaded up and did a nice cross country ski tour! There are so many options to choose from: the rendezvous trails right in town or several trails that lead into the park. We opted for the riverside trail which is also great for snowshoeing.

We ate dinner at The Gusher and the pizza was 5 stars (and so was the service!)

Don’t miss the opportunity to explore West Yellowstone, Montana in the winter. There is so much to do and explore for travelers of all ages. This has been the highlight of our season and I know you will love it, too!
