We’re thrilled to spotlight Patty Cole, a dedicated and outstanding team member who has been an integral part of The Greenbrier family for an incredible 25 years. Patty began her journey with us in 1999, working in Laundry/Valet. From the start, she demonstrated the passion and dedication that would pave the way for her career growth.

With a lifelong love for horses, Patty dreamed of joining the Equestrian team at The Greenbrier Stables. Her perseverance paid off when an opportunity finally arose. She transitioned to the stables, embracing her role as a groom and proving her talent and commitment. In 2021, her hard work and leadership were recognized when she was promoted to Lead Groom.

Patty’s dedication goes beyond her day-to-day responsibilities. She has taken on the role of mentor, sharing her knowledge and passion for horsemanship with a new generation. Her efforts ensure that our guests experience world-class service while creating unforgettable moments with our beloved Greenbrier horses.

Beyond her leadership at the stables, Patty plays a vital role in caring for our horses. She works closely with veterinarians and vendors to maintain the health and well-being of our equine team members. Patty has also facilitated the smooth transition of retiring horses to loving homes, ensuring their comfort and happiness long after their time at The Greenbrier.

Patty exemplifies The Greenbrier Spirit with her unwavering dedication, loyalty, and passion for service. We are grateful for her contributions and look forward to many more years of excellence from this remarkable team member.

🌟 Team Member Tuesday 🌟

This week, we’re spotlighting Patricia “Trish” Parker, a dedicated and passionate Bunker Tour Guide who has been sharing The Greenbrier’s incredible history with guests since 1999!

Trish joined The Greenbrier team part-time after a successful career in banking, and her love for history made the Bunker the perfect fit. Over the years, she has expanded her role to include office work and leading both Interior and Exterior History Tours. Her insatiable curiosity about The Greenbrier’s rich history keeps her constantly uncovering new information to share with her guests.

For Trish, the best part of her almost 25-year career has been the wonderful people she’s worked alongside and the special guests she’s had the chance to meet. A true sports fan, her favorite memories are guiding tours for sports guests—most recently, the Wisconsin Badgers Basketball Team!

When asked about her time at The Greenbrier, Trish says:
“I plan to be here as long as I can still walk in from the parking lot. When you like to talk and have a captive audience for 90 minutes, what more can you ask for?”

Meet Michael Carver, a valued member of our Housekeeping team who has been with The Greenbrier since 2017. Michael started in retail at The Greenbrier Classic shop and transitioned to his current role as Housekeeping Inspector in June 2018.

When asked about his favorite part of the job, Michael shared, “My favorite thing about being an Inspector is all the people I’ve gotten to know and work beside these many years.” It's clear that his positive attitude and collaborative spirit have made a lasting impact on his colleagues.

One of Michael’s most memorable guest interactions was when he had the chance to work with the Bethesda Group, famously known for their Fallout video game franchise. "It was an incredible experience to host such a creative group," Michael recalled.

Michael’s leadership team has nothing but praise for him: “He is a rockstar and everyone is glad to see him. They are all very willing to lend him a hand if needed.”

We’re lucky to have someone like Michael at The Greenbrier, and we thank him for his dedication, teamwork, and excellent service to both our team and guests!

⭐️Team Member Tuesday, Cindi Napier, Director of Group Sales⭐️

Cindi was born and raised in Monroe County, WV and graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1993 and a Master of Business Administration in 1995. Cindi started at The Greenbrier in May 1998 in the Conference Services Department. After servicing many of the resort’s top groups, she transitioned over to the Sales Team and has been an integral part of that team ever since.

Cindi is currently the Director of Group Sales and manages many of the team's day-to-day functions while handling the West Virginia Association Market. Cindi is regularly the top producer on the Sales Team and does an incredible job maintaining valuable relationships with our most important customers.

Cindi is also passionate about community leadership and has served as the former Chair of Leadership WV. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors for Experience Greenbrier Valley and is the Secretary of the Board for the WV Hospitality and Travel Association. Outside of work, Cindi enjoys traveling and spending quality time with her husband, Kevin, and their two sons, Brett and Seth.

🌟 Team Member Tuesday: Teri Venable 🌟

Meet Teri Venable, Reservations Administrative Assistant, who has been an essential part of The Greenbrier team for 37 years!

Teri began her career in December 1987 as a Secretary in the Sales Department. After six years, she moved to Public Relations, where she was promoted to Administrative Assistant. In 2006, Teri joined the Reservations Department, where she continues to make a significant impact every day.

Teri handles in-house reservations for various areas, including Casino, Sales, Event Services, The Greenbrier Clinic, Greenbrier Sporting Club, vendors, and employee reservations. She also manages payroll for Reservations and the Telephone Office, oversees charity gift certificates, and supports the Managers on Duty (MODs) by researching guest issues.

Whether it’s keeping the office running smoothly or assisting her team, Teri is always focused on ensuring The Greenbrier books as much business as possible. She truly does whatever it takes to support her co-workers and deliver outstanding service.

🎉 Team Member Tuesday: James Poteat 🎉

For over 34 years, James Poteat has been a welcoming presence at The Greenbrier as a Bellman. Since April 1990, James has exemplified our tradition of exceptional hospitality.

When asked about his favorite part of working here, James reflected on being featured in Southern Living Magazine during Christmas 2016 for greeting guests. He shared, “We treat our guests like family, and to me, they are family. I always made sure to ask, ‘Can I help with anything?’ and ensured they were taken care of. The guests I’ve met through the years are still my family to this day.”

James also recalled memorable guest interactions, like checking in Dallas Cowboys star Ed "Too Tall" Jones and former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Despite their fame, he noted, “They were ordinary people to me, and I treated them like any other person who has visited The Greenbrier.”

His advice to new team members? “When you join the team, we’re family. This job has provided me a good living, helped me put my son through college, and connected me with wonderful people. My advice is to focus on your job and not worry about what others are doing.”

Outside of work, James enjoys spending time with friends and family, gardening, detailing cars, and cherishing moments with his grandchildren—occasionally with a little Bourbon to sip while relaxing.

Thank you, James, for your dedication and the warm hospitality you’ve provided our guests over the decades. You truly embody the spirit of Ladies and Gentlemen, serving Ladies and Gentlemen!

For over 40 years, Thelma Adkins has been an integral part of The Greenbrier family, bringing her dedication and cheerful spirit to every role she’s held. Thelma began her journey with us in May 1984, in the Laundry Department, where she spent 29 years building bonds with her team, who became like family.

Even after transitioning to new roles, including Valet Car Runner, and Sanitation and Bus Driver, Thelma’s positive energy never wavered. Today, she shines as a Dispatcher in Motor Services—a role she plans to hold until retirement. If you call for a shuttle or transportation reservation, you’ll be greeted by her warm and friendly voice, always aiming to brighten your day.

Thelma cherishes the memories of her early years at The Greenbrier, especially the camaraderie of her Laundry Department team and a special manager who included them in hotel activities like carriage rides and room tours. Today, her deep knowledge of the property and her connections with the staff make her a go-to problem solver.
