As I'm sure you are aware, fire frequency seems to be a growing problem and summers, in particular, tend to be very dry in Montana. The National Weather Service has issued a "RED FLAG" WARNING for our mountain and much of the state including Glacier Park. As always, be extremely cautious with everything you do fire related and remember, sparks from dragging chains, ci******es and any embers can destroy hundred of thousands of acres. Thank you!

This was a bike ride we took up Going To the Sun Road in Glacier National Park a few years back. It was early in May and not yet open to vehicles. Here are some SCARY FACTS about wildfires.  Our likelihood of a wildfire is largely determined by the amount of rain we receive in June. Hope for rain in June!!  The most likely causes of a wildfire on Big Mountain are human caused fires started by things like a chain dragging from a vehicle or embers spread from a wood fueled campfire or fire pit.  Embers can travel 5 miles ahead of wildfire flames. Embers can smolder in leaves, tree cones, tree needles, landscaping bark, dead trees, and other fuels on our properties -- before starting a fire.  Wildfires can burn 5-10 acres per second. Because of our terrain, a wildfire which starts by Whitefish Lake can make it up to our properties in 6-10 minutes, depending on the wind.
