Summer’s winding down, so remember to check which activities are available before heading up to the mountain 🏔️

Everything will be open as normal through Labor Day weekend. Starting September 3rd, we will transition to the following operations:

OPEN DAILY (Sept. 3-15): Scenic Lift Rides, Whitefish Bike Park, Summit House food and drinks, Hiking trails, Base Lodge Ticket Counter.

WEEKENDS ONLY (Sept. 7-8 and 14-15): Zip Line Tours, Alpine Slides, Aerial Adventure Park, Mountain bike rentals, Chairs 6 and 10, Base Lodge food and drinks.

Finally, please note the Strider Bike Park and Spider Monkey Mountain will be closed for the season starting Saturday, Aug. 31. Enjoy summer while it lasts!

The Workforce Assistance Program has helped 16 single parents successfully live and work in the community by providing rental assistance.

The goal of the program is to prevent displacement for those currently living and working in the community and provide opportunities for those living outside the Whitefish but working here to live here.

We are grateful to the support from the City of Whitefish, the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce, Explore Whitefish, the Foley Family Charitable Foundation, and a number of local businesses.

Together we can continue to make a bigger impact on the lives of those in our community.

Whether you live near our facilities or are just visiting, please remember to properly store food and discard trash only in bear-proof receptacles. Carrying bear spray while out and about is also highly recommended.

Today marks the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the U.S. on June 19, 1865, when Union troops notified enslaved African Americans of their freedom, two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth showcases the jubilation of the end of slavery in the Confederacy and was signed into law as a national holiday in 2021.

Glacier National Park has a rich history, and the park you see today has benefitted from the work of many Black Americans who helped build, maintain, and shape the park’s infrastructure so future generations could appreciate its beauty.

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built trails, roads, campsites, and fire lookouts, and even fought fires within the park. More than 200,000 African Americans served in the CCC nationwide, including a cohort in Glacier.

Buffalo Soldiers, U.S. Army regiments primarily composed of Black Americans, served as park rangers in the years before the National Park Service was formed, and the iconic park ranger “flat hat” comes from their uniform. The Buffalo Soldiers participated in the first U.S. government expeditions to what is now Glacier in the late 1800s.
