Mariners Pier will opening on April 29th.

Surfside Pier will also see a change in its opening date. Normally Surfside Pier opens on Mothers Day weekend, instead, it will open on May 21st.

Adventure Pier will open on May 27th, the start of Memorial Day Weekend.

Raging Waters will open on June 9th with Ocean Oasis opening up on June 18th.

We're excited to announce that the 20th Annual Cape Express Beach Blast will be held on June 25 & 26, 2022 and the 13th Annual MORE Beach Blast will be held on July 16 & 17, 2022. Registration is now open for each event. Visit the Cape Express Beach Blast page for more information pertaining to the 2022 events.
Please keep in mind:

For both tournaments, you will apply at the age your team is playing in the Fall 2021/Spring 2022 year, the age you are right now. Both events are now using birth year age designations.

Both tournament applications, June and July, will be live together, MAKE SURE YOU ARE APPLYING FOR THE CORRECT TOURNAMENT. The tournaments are not linked so we can't just move you from one to the other. You will need to reapply, move to the back of the line, credit cards get charged, and fees incurred. Not the end of the world but it becomes a bit crazy at acceptance time and the less chances for mistakes, the better for all of us.

On this date in 1609 - 412 years ago - English navigator Henry Hudson inadvertently "discovered" the Wildwoods...

Hudson and his crew of 18 became the first Europeans to catch a glimpse of what is today southern Cape May County while searching for the Northwest Passage, aboard the Halve Maen (Half Moon).

An attempt to explore the uncharted Delaware Bay was thwarted by strong tides (and perhaps fate) several miles up the coast, pulling the ship to a sandbar. Hudson and his crew were stranded until thunderstorms and wind aided the Halve Maen around Cape May Peninsula.

Historical accounts differ as to whether Hudson stayed on the ship or came ashore to trade with Native Americans.

Either way, news of the location sparked the search for a new trading post. (Just over a decade later, Captain Cornelius Jocobsen Mey surveyed the area and named it for himself.)

Hudson continued to sail up the East Coast, searching for the elusive Northwest Passage - a presumed direct route to Asia from Europe; but that pesky North American continent sat in his way.

He eventually found his way to what would become the New York metropolitan area. You may have heard of a fairly famous river up there named after him.

Makes one wonder how history might have unfolded had Hudson and his crew been successful in their attempt to sail up the Delaware Bay and into (or perhaps past?) Philadelphia...
