🎣 Exciting News from Lyon Sleepers! 🎣
We are thrilled to introduce the new owners of Lyon Sleepers, Captain Marty Running and Captain Nathan Fodness, who also own LOTW Sleepers!
This transition comes with heartfelt memories as we honor the legacy of Pat Kane, who passed away in 2023. Pat was not only a great fisherman but a good man who loved Lake of the Woods and everything it stands for. As fate would have it, in 2020, Pat had the chance to fish with Captain Marty Running on the Happy Ho**er IV, where Marty got to know him personally. It was clear from the start that Pat’s passion for fishing and his deep respect for the lake were unparalleled. His memory will always be cherished as part of Lyon Sleepers' story.
Now, let’s introduce Captain Marty and Captain Nathan:
🎣 Captain Marty Running
Marty’s fishing journey started on Lake Superior, where he spent summers as a first mate alongside his grandfather, Don Dahl, who founded Happy Ho**er Charters in 1976. Marty officially joined the family business as a licensed USCG captain in 2014, running the Happy Ho**er IV. Marty’s love for Lake of the Woods began in the late 1990s on ice fishing trips with his father. Over the years, Marty has honed his skills and developed a reputation for excellent customer service, ensuring every trip is memorable and packed with fish.
🎣 Captain Nathan Fodness
Nathan grew up far from lakes in the southwest corner of Minnesota but found his passion for fishing after moving to Duluth in 2001. After years of working as a first mate on Lake Superior charters, Nathan earned his USCG captain’s license in 2014 and started "I’d Rather Be Fishing Charters." His love for fishing led him to ice guiding in winter, where he applied his carpentry skills to design warm, comfortable ice houses perfect for families. His focus is simple: providing awesome and memorable experiences for every guest.
Together, Captain Marty and Captain Nathan bring decades of experience, a passion for fishing, and a shared commitment to creating unforgettable adventures on Lake of the Woods.
Pat Kane left a legacy of love for the sport, and we are honored to carry it forward. Lyon Sleepers is in great hands, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.
Here’s to a bright future on Lake of the Woods and to the memories of those who’ve inspired us along the way. 🎣
