Today at the Trailside Cafe, Mile 73 in Willow, we remember and honor those who lost their lives on 9/11, the families forever impacted, and the brave first responders who selflessly ran toward danger to help others. On this solemn day, we pause to reflect on the resilience, courage, and unity shown during one of the darkest moments in history.

Our thoughts are with all those affected by the events of that day, and we remain deeply grateful to all who continue to serve and protect. Thank you to our local heroes and all those who keep our communities safe.

💔 Heartbreaking News from Mile 73 💔

Our family at the Alaska Dog Center and Trailside Cafe are heartbroken for the family and friends of the 40-year-old Talkeetna man who tragically lost his life last night after hitting a ditch and being ejected from his F-350 while driving north on the Parks at Mile 73. The Alaska State Troopers have made an official announcement for those seeking more information.

We want to extend our deepest gratitude to all who responded, including the incredible members of our local Willow Fire/EMS Department, any neighboring fire departments who responded, the flight life crew, EMTs/paramedics, and the Alaska State Troopers who directed the scene. We are especially moved by the support from our neighbors and our Airbnb guest from Big Lake, who all offered their help and support in this difficult moment.

Our community is filled with amazing people who always come together during tough times. We are truly heartbroken. Be careful friends and keep your loved ones close.

It was Carrie‘s birthday today, and she turned 34! Tougher than most people I know, she found out what appendicitis feels like. She also found out how amazing the medical professionals are at Mat-Su Medical Center. We opened at 11am today to get Carrie to surgery and her appendectomy went extremely well. She’s home with the dogs and resting in the beautiful aspen forest around her 12 acre homestead. We will be open again at 11am Sunday. We’d love to see you for waffles and biscuits/gravy, coffee and breakfast sandwiches. We want to give a shout out to Mary and Carmen for working with such mastery today serving so many fantastic people from near and far. And we want to thank you all for all the support. Happy birthday Carrie, and may you have the best and most rewarding year ever - in your work,in your mushing, and in your personal life.

Wildfire Update: Be careful driving north of mile 94 on the Parks Highway as crews work to contain the Montana Creek Fire. State Patrol is assisting with traffic calming.

We're sharing what sled dog teams look like at night with different kinds of illumination. Here is Carrie's 12 dog Alaskan Husky team heading up the hill to their well lit home at @badmannerskennel in Caswell. Carrie is using a H14R.2 Headlamp by @ledlenserusa to light the entire team. The harnesses are from @nonstopdogwear and have some reflective 3M striping. We left off the lead dog lights so you can get a feel for what the power of a headlamp at night can be. It's not the end all be all for safety, but a super strong headlamp and harnesses with some 3M reflective taping are a good start. #sharethetrail #dogpower www.promushing.com
