Almost every bit of furniture (with the exception of mattresses and sleeper sofa) was upcycled, antique, vintage or thrifted. Here at we wanted to be as green as possible out of respect for the national forest that borders our property. We are pretty thrilled with how everything turned out. We can’t wait for you to stop by!

This is it folks, the day we get to see our blood (literally, accidentally shot his finger with a nail gun and also had a router saw jump into his hand, all good now though), sweat (you ain’t never sweat like wearing tubal suit in an attic to replace insulation sweat), and tears (Caitlin frustration cried due to plumbing retrofit issues) pay off. The house is done and ready for renters. Unbelievably proud and excited for this new chapter. Welcome to Caidan House!

Cozy living room vibes . The blue couch pulls out into a full size bed, the white couch is super cozy, the coffee table is live edge, the cross country ski poles in the corner are vintage, and the TV is smart. Everything you need for a quiet night in the woods

Kitchen was completely renovated, cabinets painted, Sheetrock installed, new sink, new countertops, a kitchen island built by , brand new doors and hardware, wallpaper hung up, ceiling and paneling stained. So much work but such a payoff!

Gallery walls always seem to be a work in progress. Thanks to and Arie especially, our work in progress has a bit more…progress. Note the piece on the bookshelf, his gallery is incredible and located in downtown Wilmington about 2 miles from the house, absolutely worth a visit!

Blue bedroom downstairs is all finished. Built a closet for some storage and to house the washer/dryer, sourced a dresser from the late 1800s and a brass bed with marble details. Put in an overhead light and custom built a door for the closet. Added some ski themed art and this room is ready for visitors!

Upstairs bedroom, or the green room. Cozy and airy, with a private balcony to take in the great view of the lake. Vintage art and a warm forest green, a true refuge.

Live edge wood is great to work with if you can find it. Lucky for us, Vermont has plenty of it if you know where to look. built an absolutely beautiful bench for the dining area, a live edge countertop to add to the usable space in the kitchen, and stunning yet functional shelves for the kitchen as well. To work with live edge you have to chisel the bark off, sand until you can’t sand anymore, and finish the piece. Aidan prefers as it protects the wood while enhancing the piece’s natural beauty. The shelf in the living room was entirely constructed by my talented goddaughter , and took time out of her insanely busy doctor schedule to do some of that tedious sanding work for us. We are lucky to have such a great crew!

Upstairs red bedroom is finished and furnished! Two cozy twin beds each with a trundle bed for giant sleepovers. A workspace for the WFH crew that’s sick of the H but still needs to W. Cozy and curated. Come visit!

Upstairs are two bedrooms. In true 1960s style each has its own sink. In the smaller bedroom there was incredibly old carpet in poor condition. We carefully removed the baseboard moulding, ripped up the carpet (wear masks when doing this, dust gets truly everywhere) and discovered linoleum. We priced out carpeting the room but it was prohibitively expensive so we went with vinyl flooring, relatively easy to cut install. Threw some on the walls, put back the moulding and this bedroom was ready to be furnished! Please note, there are overhead lights but they weren’t connected so we had to make do with reusing existing lamps when working at night.

We usually have canine company here at , and my dog Baxter wasn’t immediately certain of how he felt about snow nearly over his head but he bravely soldiered on. Excuse my geeky dog voice! *caitlin

We closed on the house in late January 2021. Snow and winter in Vermont is no joke. Shoveling is a way of life, salt and sand is everywhere but the peacefulness that fresh snowfall brings just can’t be beat! Here’s some views of in the middle of a true Vermont winter, featuring ’s prized 1999 rebuilt jeep wrangler named Babs, whose snow drift negotiating abilities cannot be underestimated! My little blue Subaru (a stereotypical Vermonter car if there ever was one) makes an appearance as well

Hi everyone! We are Caitlin and Aidan McNaughton, a sister/brother partnership renovating a lovely little cabin in Wilmington Vermont. It’s our biggest project since blanket forts. By way of introduction, Caitlin is an attorney specializing in litigation and Aidan is an engineer working as an Assistant Project Manager. This is our first renovation and we hope you come along for the journey as we Google our way through fixing up this sweet little 1964 house for future use as a short term rental minutes from major ski resorts and directly across from the lake.
