After a few days of hu***ng shingles we are off to Pennsylvania with our Washington DC unit for the Centre of PA rally!

The update to the trailer plug umbilical replacement! The new 15' cord was required due to our Hensley hitch extension. After removing the couch to get to the 12 volt panel and bus bars and removing the batteries, I pulled the new cable and cut the old out, adding new ring connectors and a ground bus to organize the confusion that is the Hallmark of Airstream wiring. In an attempt to modify the battery boxes to improve the ease of removal and installation, I cut some sheet steel with a die grinder. Shortly after that I was checking the new wiring with the tow vehicle attached. When I went into the trailer to check on the wiring I smelled what I thought was wire burning. After reinstalling the batteries I did a burn down test for 20 minutes with all lights, directional and brakes on. I assumed after that that the smell was from the metal cutting and not the new circuitry. The trailer is all back together. Now I can troubleshoot the hot water system for clogged lines and install the new Catalytic Heater.

The repair of the trailer plug took on a life of its own as I discovered a splice and found that the old cord was wired differently than the new one. Then I discovered the cord I bought was too short and had to order another. Its due in tomorrow. So in other news, after 20 years, I decided to install this Olympian Catalytic heater in one of my Airstreams! Before that I needed to modify the propane regulator position so that I could open the auxillary battery box. So I'm bench testing it's operation. Tons of heat and quiet. The only power it uses is at 12 volt startup.

Today's travel from PA to NH was not without drama. This is what happens when your umbilical cord falls out! Fortunately there was still enough of the two contacts to separate the halves and plug it back in. No idea how it came apart but I'll bet it was the rough roads. Road Rash for sure!

At Brunswick Family Campground for WDCU CKR! As the line from the movie goes! A funny thing happened on the way to the Forum! After a grueling 10 hour journey from Carolina Home to Maryland fatigue worked it's magic and It happened in a split second while making what we thought was the turn into the Campground. A confusing sign directed us to the C&O canal bike path. With swales on both sides we had to back up and turn the 31 footer around on a single lane pathway. Fortunately Lin found a small patch of semi level ground to back onto and after a series of short turns we were back on track.
Returning to the scene of the crime we found the sign which upon further scrutiny revealed the arrows on the sign were the cause of the error there was a large arrow for the Canal and a tiny arrow on the bottom for the campground. It's obvious when you are standing 10 feet from it. But at a distance of 50 to 100 feet it's nearly impossible to see at a quick glance. Well that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
