Today some of us took a guided tour of Skagway and some of us took the vintage train ride to the White Pass summit. This town was all about the Alaskan Gold Rush which didn’t produce much gold (spoiler alert!) but the history is fascinating. Again, we had a wonderful history lesson on this onboard the Edge and view from the train were spectacular. The tour guides also shared more history (some pretty grim) of the prospectors who ventured to Alaska to find gold.

The Mendenhall Glacier was stunning and pictures do not begin to do it justice. Some of our family hiked to the falls, others of us just enjoyed everything about this Visitor Center and the fun but quick tour of Juneau. We saw SO MANY Bald Eagles on the ride to the glacier.

Been a busy 3 days with excursions and exploring Alaska from the Celebrity Edge. Highlights have been the Totem Bight State Park in Ketchikan, Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau, and the White Pass Train ride in Skagway.
The adults and girls (7, 11, 14) loved learning about the totem poles - how they are carved and the stories they tell. Celebrity had an AWESOME historian speak about Ketchikan and we learned a lot before visiting the park.

Sailing to Ketchikan, AK on the Celebrity Edge July 5, 2024. Great pre-cruise stay in Seattle for 3 nights with sightseeing fun! Celebrated the 4th with friends and family going on cruise with us. Boarding the Celebrity Edge took a while but it was well organized and moved quickly. We had a GREAT car service that handled all of our luggage for NINE people for us - loading from hotel and unloading at boarding queue so we could just proceed forward for final check-in.
Celebrity had our room ready at boarding and the grandkids immediately hit the outdoor pool as it was 80 degrees. Today was a sea day - so indoor pool for them. So far lots of good food - 2 good shows, plenty of live music to enjoy and good to great food included in cruise fare. Kids love the buffet and pizza in Oceanview Cafe. Adults are enjoying the variety and the drinks, of course!
Our room is plenty spacious, the AFT balcony is extraordinary! We hardly want to leave it to go do other things. Saw Orcas north of Seattle. Today, the top decks - while gorgeous - are COLD to us. Our daughter’s family has an AFT balcony next to us and we can open the “door” for an extended balcony - we love this!!
Looking forward to Ketchikan tomorrow.
