Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Swap Meet tomorrow. Doors open at 7am. Please bring cash, preferably in smaller denominations. Most of the exhibitors only take cash, and they may not be able to make change for large bills All the exhibitor tables have been sold, and there are sure to be many good deals.

There was a nice turnout for the meeting last night. In case you missed it, here's a recap of what's happening in the club.
1) Our speaker was Captain Daniel Wheeler of KingFin Charters out of Waukegan. A video of his talk is provided on the Salmon Unlimited Members Only page.
2) This year we are way ahead on new and renewed memberships. Membership currently stands at 290 members, with a whopping 55 new members who have joined the club.
3) Each of the new members will be invited to participate in our New Members Outing on May 18th. The board has decided to continue offering this outing to new members who join either at the Swap Meet or at the free seminar being held at Lake Michigan Angler on March 1st.
4) Our Annual Swap Meet is this Saturday, February 15th, at the River Park Moose Lodge. 8601 W Fullerton Ave, River Grove, IL 60171. Doors open at 7am. For anyone who has not gone before, this is a great place to pick up new and used fishing equipment.
5) Other upcoming events include the Fin Clip on March 16th and 17th and the April Pizza Party on April 15th. More detailed information on those events will be forthcoming.

We thank all our members for their support and participation in the club.

Tomorrow, February 13th, 2025, the Wisconsin DNR is holding a preliminary public hearing on Statement of Scope SS 114-24 which is related to the establishment of a Lake Michigan lake trout commercial harvest. If you have not done so already, we encourage you to submit to the DNR your comments on this.

Here's the link to the submission -

The link to the scope statement itself is here -

Since 1973, Salmon Unlimited has worked with the state DNR agencies around Lake Michigan to promote, protect and preserve our world class sport fishery. We strongly feel that the commercial netting of lake trout and other potential sport fish bycatch will be harmful to the fishery and the local economies that benefit from sport fishing.

We will be at Capt Dan Keating’s Salmon School this weekend at Lake Michigan Angler in Winthrop Harbor, IL. Dan does a great job teaching new and experienced anglers. Check out his website captaindankeating.com for information, dates and locations for all his Salmon Schools. We will be taking new and renewed SU IL memberships at Lake Michigan Angler this weekend.

Captain Dan & guest Captains will teach you a system for locating and catching fish on YOUR boat, in the waters you fish. Dan has spent his career helping thousands of anglers, novice and experienced, to catch fish like a pro!

Stop by our booth at the Chicagoland Fishing Expo. The show runs Thursday through Sunday at the Schaumburg Convention Center.

New members who sign up at the show will be invited to our New Members Outing on May 18th, which includes a morning of fishing on Lake Michigan and a cookout to follow.

Existing members who renew at the show will be entered into a drawing for a Lake Michigan Angler gift card.

If you missed Tuesday's meeting, here's a recap:

1) Captain Harley Goodman gave a great presentation. Harley has joined Thin Blue Line Fishing Charters out of Chicago. A video of his presentation has been posted on the Members Only page.

2) It's time to renew your membership! If your renewal is received by January 31st, you will be entered into a drawing to receive a Lake Michigan Angler gift certificate.

3) For any new members, we will again be having a new members outing on May 18th (weather permitting). This is one of our most fun events for the year. New members will be invited to join one of our experienced members on their boat. At that time of year, the cohos are usually cooperative and provide plenty of action. A lunch will follow.

4) We plan to start the February general meeting a half hour earlier at 7pm. We know some of you would like to start the meeting even earlier than that. However, the board of directors do meet before the the general meeting, and we do need adequate time to discuss club business before the start of the general meeting.

5) We will have a booth at the Schaumburg Sport Show, January 23rd-26th. Please stop by if you are attending the show.

6) The Swap Meet is February 15th at the River Park Moose Lodge, 8601 W Fullerton Ave, River Grove, IL. Exhibitor tables cost $25 for members, and $40 for non-members. If you are interested in getting a table, please send an email to [email protected].

7) We need about a dozen more volunteers for the fin clip down at the Jake Wolf Hatchery in Topeka IL, on March 17th. This is a really neat event where you can get a behind the scenes look at our DNR in action. We will be fin clipping a new strain of brown trout. You do not need to be a member to participate in this. The club does pay for your hotel room if you stay overnight the night before, and reimburses gas expenses up to a certain amount. Breakfast and lunch are provided. If you are interested, please send an email to [email protected].

For those who missed it, here is a quick recap of our December meeting.
1) Thank you everyone who attended and helped to stuff envelopes for membership renewals. You made quick work of this big task. When you receive your renewal, it would be a great help to the club to renew quickly to avoid further time, cost and effort sending a second renewal notice.
2) Tony Boshold and Mike Zacharias have joined the board, filling the two vacancies. Thank you Tony, Mike and all our board members who help to make this a great club. Attached is a pic of your 2025 board members.
3) We will be attending the Schaumburg Sport Show, January 23-26th.
4) The Swap Meet will be February 15, 2025 at the River Park Moose Lodge (same as last year).
5) The Fin Clip will be March 17th. Instead of cohos, this year we will be clipping a large number of a new strain of brown trout. We are looking for about 45 volunteers.

More detailed information for all our events will be included with the mailed renewals, and updated on the website and pages.

Happy holidays everyone.

We had a great meeting last night. Here is a quick summary in case you missed it.
1) First, THANK YOU to everyone who brought food items for donation to the food pantry. The club will be donating those food items with turkeys, before Thanksgiving.
2) We reached our goal of 400 members for the year. It's been great to see the membership grow this past year. Looking forward to a bigger and better 2025.
3) We held our club elections. All officers and board members were re-elected without opposition. We also found a couple people who are interested in filling the two vacant board member positions. We hope to finalize that and make an announcement in the next couple of months.
4) Our top three club tournament captains gave the presentation last night. The video of that is on the Salmon Unlimited Members Only page. If you are going through salmon fishing withdrawal this winter, the Members Only page has a bunch of videos to watch. A lot of great information there.
5) Our December 10th meeting will be a holiday/pizza party. At that meeting we will be stuffing envelopes for membership renewals that will be mailed out next month.

Thank you all for your support of the club. Our members make this a great organization.
