Charlotte and Paul came in from out east to do some Lake flying last week. Here were some of the photos that the got during the flights.

We traveled to Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, in October 2023 so I could fly a hull seaplane, a 1981 Lake LA 4-200 Buccaneer, with Kurt Gross of Wings Air Charter. N80126 is a 1981 aircraft with a 200hp Lycoming IO-360 A1B engine. I flew around Petenwell Lake and Castle Rock Lake, as well as the nearb...

Congratulations to Daryl Andrews on receiving his Commercial Pilot Single Engine Sea certificate. Daryl is in the pharmaceutical industry and a part time CFI in Terra Haute, IN. He just bought a Lake LA4-180 and is looking forward to splashing around in his new airplane. Great Job Daryl!

Wisconsin is The Water Ski Show Capital of THE WORLD……and this weekend is the 57th Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships. It is the LARGEST and LONGEST RUNNING water ski tournament and has been held in Wisconsin Rapids every year (other than a couple years in the nearby Town of Rome) since its inception. I guess that would make Wisconsin Rapids the Show Ski Captial of the World.

Congrats to Richard Hoch on earning his Single Engine Sea rating. Rich is from Stillwater, MN and owns domaćin, a restaurant a block off the river in Stillwater. He has owned N6151V for a few years and finally got the time to get his sea rating to be able to land her in the water. Great Job Rich! Have fun with all the new places that you can go!

Congratulations to Paul Valenstein from Midland, TX on earning his Commercial Pilot Airplane Single Engine Sea certificate. Paul is an air traffic controller in Texas and was up for Oshkosh and decided to add another rating to his collection. Great Job Paul!

Congratulations to Taylor Kohls on earning her Private Pilot Single Engine Seaplane certificate. Taylor is the Airport Manager the Iowa County airport in Mineral Point (KMRJ). She used to own a Citabria and her taildragger skills had her earning the rating quickly. Great Job Taylor!

Mike Stevens flew in from Duluth in June for some Lake instruction. He owns an amphibian Volmer VJ22. Mike wanted to get some more water operations in an amphibious aircraft like the Lake to get more comfortable with his Volmer on the water. Mike said he was coming in a Cirrus but I was quite surprised to see a Cirrus JET sitting on the ramp when I arrived at the airport. It turns out that Mike was the test pilot for the certification of the Cirrus jet and works for Cirrus.

Congratulations to Tim Steil on earning his Private Pilot Single Engine Sea rating. Tim flys out of an air park north of Minneapolis and flew his tricked out STOL Cessna 182 in to get his rating. He and two or three other guys were hoping to buy a Buccaneer together. Tim was the guinea pig and was supposed to come and fly in one to see what they were like. After a couple hours he was having so much fun he decided to stay and get his rating. Great Job Tim and good luck with your upcoming purchase.

Congrats to Paul Youngs on earning his Commercial Single Engine Sea rating. Paul was an airline pilot for several years and now has an Edward Jones agency in the Minneapolis area. Great Job Paul!
