We got a pretty big surprise this trip when we arrived at the cabin and stumbled across a whole bunch of edible wild mushrooms, growing right in the yard. Must have been perfect growing conditions this week, because this is our second harvest. 🍄 I grew up foraging for mushrooms, so coming across these right here in our backyard was pretty cool. Another “before-and-after” project completed and so happy how it turned out. The downstairs master bedroom suffered some localized flooding due to the massive amounts of melting snow we had this winter. Coming from Bakersfield and Southern California, there are two ways into Alta Sierra and the Kern River Valley. Option 1: Take the 178 through the river canyon. Beautiful drive along the river with lots of turn outs, day camping and picnic spots. It’s narrow at times and drivers can be pushy. It’s also a well used road and the main thoroughfare for people to come in and out of the. Option 2: Take the 155 through Glennville. This road takes you past miles and miles of pasture and fields and through rolling hills, before heading up to the mountains. The last bit is VERY windy - beware. But the views are pretty and the road is definitely the one less travelled… AND it only takes about 10 extra minutes to get up to the cabin.
