I needed some major introvert time, and just wrapped up a week at a little cottage in Maine. Down a dirt road, perched on a cliff above a rocky shore with no neighbors in sight. I literally did not leave the house the first three days. I read 6 books, including the latest wisdom from Anne LaMott and re-read for the millionth time Sabbath, by Wayne Muller. Mid-week I learned that a dear friend and a participant in our first retreat had unexpectedly and tragically died. I was so grateful to have the time to hold her close in my thoughts, and to reflect on the reality that this third act of life is the end. It comes with new freedom, joy,sadness,loss, birth, letting go and trying to accept unwelcome changes ( as in I seem to lose more things than ever- kindle, luggage, glasses, my mind). I’m working on giving myself a little grace, as well as letting go of my need to control things that are out of my control. ( this is going to take more than a week away).
