Mrs. Jackson’s extended day classroom explored the snowy landscape beyond our playground this week!

In Mrs. Jackson's extended day class, students enact "The Mitten" by Jan Brett. The class will revisit the narrative, allowing new students to join in. The props and story will be available for independent play during work time. Story acting enables children to share their ideas with the group, providing a powerful incentive for children's storytelling and celebrating their creativity, while allowing the class to construct meaning around a highly engaging text. At the heart of storytelling and story acting is the process of listening - adults listening to children, children listening to their classmates, and children listening to adults - all in the service of fostering greater understanding and appreciation of each other's ideas and stories.

All God’s children have a place in the choir!!

Enroll your child in St. Matthew’s Youth Choir! Children will learn basic music reading skills, work on singing skills, enjoy musical games and pray, sing, dance and rejoice together.

Begins Monday, February 3rd , 5:30 -6:15 PM

There will be six sessions: Feb, 3, 10, 17, 24 and March 3

The children will sing at the 10:00 AM service on February 23 and March 9

Children in Kindergarten through 5th grade

Sing! Dance! Pray! Together.

❄️ Snow Fun! Mrs. Davis' 3-day class began their first day back with an exploratory journey through the snowy playground, facilitating multi-sensory learning. The combination of crunchy snow, cold air, and visual stimuli engaged children on multiple levels. Furthermore, they examined scientific concepts, including the relationship between temperature and texture changes in substances. Ultimately, it was a successful first day back in school!

Mrs. Davis’ Tuesday/Thursday students revisit a timeline poster from earlier in the year. Timelines help children develop a foundational understanding of the concept of time, allowing them to grasp the sequence of events, identify patterns in their daily routines, and build a sense of predictably, which can foster security and independence in their lives; essentially, teaching them how to navigate the passage of time through visual representations and daily routines.

Mrs. Davis’ 3 day students are intently focused on constructing small block towers. Stacking play is a tactile method for your child to develop spatial concepts such as “under,” “over,” or “next to.” Research indicates that toddlers who hear spatial language during block play tend to excel in spatial problem-solving tasks.
