Today we hiked the Dipsea Trail, part of the Steep Ravine Trail just off of Highway 1 south of Stinson Beach, California to see the Trillium chloropetalum growing there. Here is a video of several clumps we found along the trail. it was a bit windy so they were moving around quite a bit. Some of them had quite wide petals especially at the base.

Councilmember Sarah Perry came to visit Cottage Lake Gardens on Monday. This was the first time Kevin and I had met her and she truly is an amazing woman and I feel lucky we have her representing us. She takes the time to reach out and visit small businesses like Cottage Lake Gardens, meeting the people and businesses she represents. She is caring and shared her goals and priorities with us and she also listened to our needs as a small business in Woodinville. Thank you Sarah for making a difference for all of us.

Had a great time potting some nice trillium rhizomes: Trillium stamineum, T. catesbaei, T. oostingii, T. lancifolium and T. ludovicianum. They were grown from seed from a friend in Tennessee. I have been getting them from him for several years but he is now retiring and these were the last rhizomes he had.

I just checked my Contorted Filbert (Corylus avellana 'Contorta' ) and noticed a branch had the dreaded Eastern Filbert Blight that is killing a lot of the filberts here in the Pacific Northwest. I immediately lopped off the diseased branch so it wouldn't spread. You can see a close-up of the dark, sunken cankers and black fungal stroma that spreads the disease.

Recommended treatments are the removal of diseased branches and spraying with a fungicide starting at budswell to budbreak continuing at 2-week intervals to cover an 8-week period helps save your prized filbert as well. Recommended fungicides include: Bonide Fung-onil Multipurpose fungicide, copper products, Hi-Yie3ld Vegetable, Flower, Fruit and Ornamental Fungicide or Propiconazole-based fungicides.

Find the hidden angel. Four Gardening Angels came to help groom the garden beds today all wearing blue masks. Once is hidden behind the Red Huckleberry.

Yesterday the Gardening Angels came to spread their angel dust throughout the garden. Once they did that they proceeded to pot up a zillion hardy cyclamens foraged from the garden.
More angels are coming today to continue the magic.
Sure glad angels don't mind the freezing cold temperatures. Even in the trailer garage they had to bundle up.
