After bombarding you with my side hustle products I thought I'd share a piece that I've just finished. It will be delivered to Cannington Community College early next week, just in time for the year 6 students I worked with to see it. Over 2 days 52 students learnt how to coil and then they spent their art lessons over the following weeks finishing their contribution to this piece. It was my job to bring them all together to make a piece of art. I think I nailed the brief ✔️

New gift shop and interactive cultural walking tour launched
A new gift shop and indigenous tour experience now available at an island off Cairns is offering visitors insight into traditional food and rainforest medicine.

A NEW gift shop and indigenous tour offering Green Island visitors insight into traditional food and rainforest medicine is now available through Great Adventures and Green Island Cruises.

Launched with a traditional smoking ceremony last week Wunyami Cultural Walking Tours is a new indigenous tourism product providing an authentic indigenous experience for visitors to Green Island.

The new business venture also includes the Black Seahorse gift shop which has opened in Green Island Resort’s day visitor area.

The shop takes its name from the black seahorse, known as a lucky charm for the saltwater women and sells a range of authentic indigenous artworks and merchandise.

Quicksilver Group managing director Tony Baker said the Wunyami Cultural Walking Tour is indigenous owned and operated with proper consent from Gunggandji and Yidinji Traditional Owners.

“It’s a wonderful addition to the island experience bringing traditional stories to life and a whole new perspective to the cultural history,” he said.

On the interactive tour, designed for small groups, participants learn about traditional food and medicinal uses of the rainforest plants, participate in traditional fire lighting techniques and can learn about cultural importance of clay painting.

“Our guides explain how the island is connected to an ancient journey of two ancestral story-time beings who fought and formed the island and who still protect it today,” Elders Gudju Gudju Fourmile and Garth Murgha said.

“Our guides tell of the relationship of these warriors and the connectivity of this iconic island to the ancient seascape.”

The Wunyami Cultural Walking Tour will be available daily and takes about one hour departing at 9.45am and 1pm.

An adult ticket price costs $29 and for children the tour costs $14.50.

Tours can be pre-booked with Great Adventures and Green Island Cruises or from the Black Seahorse gift shop on the island.
