Our Story
It’s time to make a difference. Over the past couple years I realized we are capable of doing so much more than we could ever imagine. Most of us just need a reason why. In fact, that was the opening question I was asked at my first Crossfit workout. Steph, the instructor asked me, “Brad, why are you here?” I knew I needed to be healthier, but honestly I didn’t have a clue. After a couple weeks of aches, I started to feel alive again. In just a few weeks, I quickly forgot how tired I used to feel. I felt great. It wasn’t until I started running that I began setting goals. This really kicked in when I decided to run my first marathon. It was so inspiring to hit, no shatter new goals. Each week I was going farther and farther. During the long training schedule my body became fatigued, but I could see the goal just ahead. I’m not sure which empowered me more. My trust in the plan I was following or the fear if I didn’t. I was so energized by the accomplishment I knew I had to do it again. This experienced has taught me so much about myself and human nature.
I discovered without a “Why”, there is no “Will.” Individuals want and need a final destination, a vision greater then themselves. We need a purpose. People want to know their actions truly do matter. They need to know each day’s accomplishments are driving them one step closer to the grander vision. Once we taste success, we crave more. Really, who doesn’t love winning? This is when the adrenaline ju**ie kicks in. We start consider thoughts that were unimaginable in the past. We stop looking at why we can’t and only see endless potential. With each stride the prize begins to look even richer. The clearer vision urges us even more. Because so many crash and burn at this stage in the journey, we need to seriously rely on two things. First we need to surround ourselves with other warriors, people that will lift us up and encourage us to continue. We need teammates who value crossing the finish line with us over their own person achievements. Secondly we need to rely on the ground work that was laid out at the start of the journey. Most marathon training plans drastically cut back your mileage two weeks prior the big event. Experienced trainers know committed athletes will get tired. That’s why they plan recovery runs and rest days into the schedule. We need a life plan that doesn’t require us to continually sprint to reach the goal.
So what does this mean? I realize I can’t make anyone do anything, but I am in a position to make a difference in people’s lives. I want people to experience the joy of living up to their potential. To realize they are capable of doing so much more than they ever knew possible. The joy of going to work every day and knowing they are doing what they are gifted to do. And it matters. They have a purpose on a team and together can make a difference on every project. We spend too much of our lives at work not to make a difference in our employees, clients and communities. It’s time to make a difference.
